We’ve got a brother in law who works on a road repair crew...lodging is really difficult for the guys to find; he’s considering buying a travel trailer for next spring’s tour.
Does anyone REALLY think those “poor, downtrodden” protesters are going to move to NORTH Dakota? It get very cold there, and there is always snow to be shoveled and it gets dark early and you must BUY warm clothes for the winter weather and scrape ice from the windshield BEFORE you drive to work and your ears get cold and..and..and..and
I wonder if they could use a good watchmaker up there? I know extreme cold tends to affect batteries adversely.

What construction/pipeline experience I have is mid-80s in high school and doubt I would be wanted. Wonder what the outlook is for technical types up there? I have had some experience in arctic cold but that was early 90s in Norway.

Read the article. Sounds like they need lots more than just folks for the oil fields. If you are looking...might be worth doing your own due diligence ....good luck!

This is about the affect on the area in more than just oil field jobs.
When oil field jobs suck up lots of the available labor pool, jobs in other fields are going unfilled, while the population boom puts greater demand on the whole area.
You don’t have to be a welder or pipe fitter. There are increased IT needs just because of the other work.
From the thread you linked in #11 above, the large percentage who failed the drug tests.
