GOP Establishment Now Coalescing Around Romney?
Pajamas Media ^ | Bryan Preston

Posted on 10/06/2011 9:24:34 AM PDT by McGruff

Following Governor Christie’s announcement on Tuesday top GOP official and bundler Gerogette Mosbacher told reporters, “We do not consider Perry a factor… We know who will be our nominee.” Race for 2012 reported:

Those words were spoken today by Georgette Mosbacher, RNC Finance Co-Chair and huge GOP fundraiser, after Chris Christie’s announcement. The “we” is all the big bundlers, fundraisers, and money folks who have been sitting on the sidelines waiting for the field to be set — and that quote represents the coalescing around Mitt Romney that is expected to happen rather quickly now. Mosbacher went on to say:

“I think tomorrow, we’ll be contacting one another and probably put something together with Romney… And I would say that the race is now Romney and Obama. Quite frankly, the enthusiasm wasn’t there at the outset. He’s less conservative than a lot of us would like. However, our first and foremost goal is to defeat Obama. And we do believe Romney, in terms of independents, will be a strong candidate. We will coalesce behind him now… the time has come to get behind him… Tomorrow I’ll be on the phone all day. Quite frankly, it’ll be easier, because now we know who it is who will be our nominee. So we will pull our Rolodexes out and get to work.”

NO,, the traitors are the GOP establishment types who gave us Murkowski, who gave us Scozzafava, who froze out Rand Paul, who roadblocked and hurt Sarah every single way they knew how.

If we have a shred of luck left Gov. Palin will pull another 2010 on the ungrateful bastards. Dismantling their country club mentality by placing round after round of real conservatives in the mix will be the only way this nation can survive.

Their attraction to trash like MittWitt is killing off the base and will clear the path to "bipartisan" amnesty for the illegals.

If they step in that turd we are finished.

Cain has a great opportunity. He has to not get swamped in IA and NH, win SC and FL, then he's in good shape, as the money should start coming in. If he's #3 in the first two and doesn't win SC, then he's in trouble.

Perry is in similar shape, but with more money. If he is #2 in any of the first three, then wins one, he could stay the distance with Romney.

>>>>>Perry is pro-illegal conservative..

You got the second part right. Perry's a Reagan conservative. If the Feds would close the borders like Perry has been demanding they do for the last decade, most illegal border crossing attempts would stop. The in-state tuition is a states rights issue. You may not like it, I may not like it, but it is a legitimate decision with respect to the 10th amendment and federalism. Its a relative small number that amounts to less then 1% out of some 19-million Texas college students. Its not a free ride and no one is getting subsidy.

Herman Cain can sound like a good conservative with his rhetorical pronouncements. His 999 tax plan is not acceptable. The last thing America needs is a national sales tax. And whose to say that 9-9-9 won't become 12-12-12, or 18-18-18 when the Dems retake control. Also, Cain playing the race card against Perry left a big black mark on his campaign.

Perry has the executive governing experience needed to lead America. Texas is a great success story and Perry deserves credit for pushing to keep a positive business environment with low taxes, spending restraints, along with serious tort and regulation reform. Cain has zero governing experience. In a hypothetical match-up I would vote for Cain over Obama. But Cain will not be the nominee.

The problem here is that it’s going to take A LOT of money to beat Obama, and Romney is the best bet at this point. Some of these donors supported Obama last time and were disappointed. I can think of better guys than Romney, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum for example; but those guys have no chance of beating Obama, and that’s what these donors care about the most.

Romney is unelectable...people will not pull the lever for a Mormon, they may not admit it openly, but there it is.

Then where are you going to put your time and money?<<<

Most of those who claim they will never vote for a Republican front-runner probably vote for Ron Paul, LOL.

You have a percentage on that? Romney is beating Obama in most of the polling. I don’t think the money guys would waste their money on a guy who can’t win, do you?

Go Gators, btw.

Most people have little knowledge of what the Morman Church is really all about......I guarantee that will change if Romney is the nominee, and the MSM goes all out to reveal the truth.

I think we (ie, all conservatives) could push for something that would make the Big Picture much more palatable:

DeMint for VP!<<<

It will be interesting indeed to see who the VP candidate will be. Marco Rubio was the slam-dunk choice, but for some odd reason he doesn’t want it. Jim DeMint has already told everyone “No way Jose.”. I thought maybe Cantor would take the scepter, but no sauce. Chris Christie? Maybe that’s who it is. All his donors are running for Romney after all.

If not Christie? Palin is a long-shot to energize the base only. If that’s not the plan you could see perhaps Mitch Daniels maybe. It’s hard to tell.

Personally I would like to see Newt Gingrich get the nod. He’s savvy and he can explain the issues far better than Romney, which has been Romney’s downfall in the past. Interesting indeed.

Won’t vote for Mitt. Not even a Dick Cheney on the ticket would entice me.

The big question is, who will we conservatives choose as our champion to challenge Romney for every vote. Time is running out.<<<

Time is short indeed. The Iowa primary will probably take place this December. The GOP is out of control. They need rules, they need leadership, they need convictions. They have none of these. The end is near.

I think it’s happening. My foremost goal next year is also to defeat Obama, but do we have to resort to this to do it? IMHO, even Jon Huntsman would be a better President. I just cannot vote for Romney in the primary. In the general, if he’s the nominee (gag), I suppose I could force myself to vote the ticket, but it’ll be anti-Obama, not pro-Romney. I am discourated.

That sounds complicated, but I don’t think the Morman Church has anything to do with it. It’s not like membership jumped in Massachusetts when Romney was governor. It’s a pretty tough religion to join; I don’t think people will do it. Personally, I don’t know many college students willing to give up caffeine.

“Are we going to have to do it again?”

It’s looking that way. Of course, in 2008, no Republican would have won the election. People wanted to rebuke George W. Bush.

The sad thing is,with unemployment/underemployment has high as it is now; there is no F***ing way Barry can get re-elected. This is now the time to get a real conservative candidate, not someone who will change his position more than he changes his underwear.

Perry is free to have opinions, such as handing out state taxpayer money to illegals. It tells something about his priorities.

E-verify and fence opposition is also telling

He is pro-illegal
