Steve Jobs' Estranged Father Never Got Phone Call He Waited For
ABC via Yahoo! News ^ | October 6, 2011 | COLLEEN CURRY

Steve Jobs' estranged father, who had given up his infant son for adoption, had been hoping that his grown son would call him. That hope died today.

Abdulfattah John Jandali had emailed his son a few times in a tentative effort to make contact. The father never called the son because he feared Jobs would think the dad who had given him up was now after his fortune.

And Jobs never responded to his father's emails.

"I really don't have anything to say," Jandali, vice president at Boomtown Hotel Casino in Reno, Nev., told the International Business Times.

Jandali, a Syrian immigrant, had been quoted by the New York Post recently saying he didn't know until just a few years ago that the baby he and his ex-wife, Joanne Simpson, gave up grew to be Apple's CEO.

Jandali told the Post that had it been his choice, he would have kept the baby. But Simpson's father did not approve of her marrying a Syrian, so she moved to San Francisco to have the baby alone and give him up for adoption.

"Jobs was born in San Francisco[1] and was adopted by the family of Paul Jobs and Clara Jobs (née Hagopian) of Mountain View, California.[5] Paul and Clara later adopted a daughter, Patti. Jobs' biological parents – Abdulfattah John Jandali, a Syrian Muslim immigrant to the U.S.,[24][25] who later became a political science professor at the University of Nevada and is presently a vice president of Boomtown Hotel Casino in Reno, Nevada,[26] and Joanne Schieble (later Simpson), an American graduate student[27] of Swiss and German ancestry[28] who went on to become a speech language pathologist[29] – eventually married."

Depends. Does Islam encourage free, creative thought?

One man’s tragedy is another man’s blessing.

Talk is cheap.

Did the father try to get Steve back before or after Steve became famous. He had other children with Steve’s mother. So he must have a history of trying to reverse the adoption process.

SJ’s biological parents made a huge sacrifice in order to give their child a better life. The father was respectful by only writing letters/emails. SJ was a jerk IMO. IIRC he ignored his first born child for years.

A lot is made out of this guy being a visionary & a genius. While that may be true, it would not surprise me if he were a total jerk.

I don’t admire Steve for initially denying paternity. But he embraced his daughter in time.

Good for him.

I’m certainly not prepared to pass judgment. I would probably feel similarly to Jobs if I had been abandoned.

Well, in fairness, I did down grade him to KSM. A mind capable of inventing Apple, iPhone, etc. Should be capable of bettering the 9-11 plot, even if it was battered by islam.

Jobs had real parents, the people who adopted him. This guy is a sperm donor not a father.

I suspect there’s a lot of things between the two that we don’t know about.

Exactly. My father was adopted. His bio dad made some tentative overtures, through my uncle. My dad wasn’t interested. He wasn’t angry or hurt, he just had a dad. He didn’t need another one.

My grandpa stepped up and was the father of my dad. That’s who we loved and respected as grandpa. I have no interest in the man who is biologically related to me. We have no history together, he never even laid eyes on my dad. So really, there’s nothing to connect us. And I feel that it would be disrespectful to my grandpa.
