I think the guys point was that if things get big enough and nasty enough for the "gimmes" to look for fresh meat, they'll have trouble finding it outside of their trashed realm. Remember Katrina? A few isolated gun shots heard, but overall, no one outside the ghetto wards or even in the French Quarter encountered mob takeover.
I know in my own neighborhood, we have a system in place for extended emergencies, and that includes armed self-defense. I suspect nowadays they are everywhere.
But you're right, don't be the only guy to pull a weapon in the middle of a crazed mob, unless you have a fully auto with extra mags.
I agree.
Moreso I was really talking about the “giant sleeping army” of gunowners myth.
There are an incredible amount of weapons and ammo distributed throughout this country, most of it owned by good people with decent skills.
If 5 good people in a neighborhood know each other and have each others backs (korean shopowners for example) then you’ve got one of the best impromptu police forces available.
If you’ve got 5 isolated gunowners who don’t know half their neighbors names, much less their political and shall we say theiving/mobbing tendencies then forget about it.
Whether it’s a mob of teens in wisconsin or a mob of paramilitary ‘roid-ragers from the ATF in Waco, you’re on your own, and you’ll have to make that decision that Custer made.
