Many years ago I spent a fall season skydiving.

The jumpmaster was going through the basics:

If the main doesn't deploy, release the main, and open the reserve.

If the reserve doesn't open, reach over the top and try to manually pull the pilot chute out.

One by one, try this, try that next, then try this next thing.

If all these fail, then use both elbows to beat on the packs.

"For how long?" one student asked.

The jumpmaster replied, "For the rest of your life."
