Is the Hank Williams Jr. incident a parallel to the Dixie Chicks? asks Radio-Info.com, an insider site for the radio industry...the Dallas-based country trio met with both adulation and criticism after singer Natalie Maines told a cheering London audience that she was ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas, just 10 days before President George W. Bush ordered a military invasion of Iraq in 2003.

That explains why I stopped listening to modern country.
Fortunately there is a classic country station near me. Hank, Jr., Willie, Waylon, and the boys. The occasional Chet Atkins or Uncle Dave.
imho, not the same. Fans stopped buying the Chicks’ records. But the record company did not fire them
Well HWJr was employed by ESPN, so if you make a controversial remark you can suffer the consequences. Even if it is a remark I agree with. ESPN is owned by Disney which is a very PC corp that caters to left wing sensibilities so I am not surprised by their actions.
If you are an entertainer and get into politics you have to be prepared for the consequences.
I hate that I had to turn my back on the Chicks. I like their music and I think they are cute. But then again, I am weird.
Mike
They’re not lesbians? Coulda fooled me.
Hank, don’t pass up a great opportunity. Record a new version of this song with a reference to this incident and release it as a single. I haven’t bought records in decades, but I’d buy several, just to support your right to speak your mind without being misinterpreted into oblivion by the PC police.
Agreed 100%.
Now they want to dump a man for saying what millions of Americans are already thinking or some similar variation of his comment is ridiculous as well as self-defeating and shows America that they no longer stand with real Americans.
Bingo!!!
Celebrities would always be wise to take Michael Jordan’s approach, “Republicans buy shoes, too.”
The whole thing was politically correct nonsense. He didn’t say that either one of them was Hitler. All he said was that they were politically as far apart as Netanyahu and Hitler. The media jumped to the conclusion that Obama must be Hitler in that comparison. Now, why was that, I wonder?
Hundreds of lefties said that George Bush was Hitler. They said it repeatedly on the air. And not one of them was punished for it. Hank Williams didn’t even say that Obama was Hitler, but he got thrown off the air without any discussion at all.
I’d say that the network was a bit tender on the subject. Obama, too. Maybe because he’s been behaving like Hitler for most of his life?
Excellent points!
The one thing he shouldn’t have done. So he apologized and sitll lost his job. NEVER apologize when you’re right. Duh!
Are you by any chance related to the Dixies?
Love the graphic, even if there are those who are too delicate to agree with you.
These protests are astro turfed, and Van Jones warned us about the coming response to the Arab Spring. Soros, SEIU, AFL-CIO are all involved...’nuff said.
“Dixie Chicked”
Now, that is just cold. ;o)
No, I’m from Missouri. And I was fond of President Bush.
Funny how the Left cried about the First Amendment (not actually at issues) for the Chicks, but are oddly silent here. Hmm.
