For one of the nations most famous billionaires, Steve Jobs kept a low profile as a charitable donor.
Unlike fellow tech leaders Bill Gates of Microsoft and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, he did not sign the Giving Pledge, the effort under which the nations richest individuals commit to giving at least half of their wealth to philanthropy.
His name is absent from the list of gifts of $1 million or more maintained by Indiana Universitys Center on Philanthropy.
And it wasnt until after an unflattering media report aboutJobs on the subject over the summer that Apple in September initiated a matching gifts program, under which donations to philanthropies made by employees are matched by the company.
Now what will happen to Jobss fortune Forbes has estimated his net worth at $8.3 billion is a matter of speculation that is provoking discussion about Jobs and the societal obligations of the very rich.

Jobs had EVERY RIGHT to do what he wanted with his fortune - what is this "societal obligations" CRAP ???
Whoriskey should just drop the "iskey" from his name and THEN add an "e" ...
let’s consider all the taxes paid during his business lifetime as enough.
Matthew 6
1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
More fomenting of class warfare.
Whoriskey is a tool.
This article reminds me of "A Christmas Carol", when [after Scrooge dies in the future] the people try to rip-off his bedroom furnishings and coins over his eyes ...
So Jobs didn’t give to charity. That proves he’s a dem.
How many jobs were created because of his work in a garage??? Millions...probably billions....
Difference between “contributing” and “giving back,” is not just semantics.
Personally, I don’t care what “rich” people do with their money. It’s theirs.
I had know idea that Indian University was maintaining the Book of Life. They must have a sub-contract from God.
I don't know what Steve Jobs gave away. Frankly, it is none of my business.
AND, [if they shame his family into giving his fortune away] - WHAT is "Rich" ... $200,000 ???
Hopefully, more than the widow at the temple.
“His name is absent from the list of gifts of $1 million or more maintained by Indiana Universitys Center on Philanthropy.”
I wonder how many of those gifts of $1 million or more were anonymous.
Perhaps he made his donations anonomously?
After Jobs gave Odumbo the Apple G5 prototype 2 weeks ago, I was pissed.
In hindsight, I believe what most here are saying: it’s your money, do whatever you want with it because you earned it. Jobs created his industry. If I had Jobs money, I would not give it to charity because most charities are crooks. I would prefer to build a conservative school like Hillsdale that would produce entrepreneurs who build companies, that empowers others to do the same.
More WAPO msm garbage..
Perhaps one of Jobs’ heirs will buy the Washington Post and fire all the communists.
Imagine how much worse Microsoft and Windows would be if they hadn’t had Apple nipping at their heels. I call that a great service to society.
