Illegal students face obstacles even after College
The Wall Street Journal ^ | OCTOBER 2, 2011 | staff

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — When Rhode Island became the 13th state to allow in-state tuition for illegal immigrants at public colleges, supporters heralded the move as one that would give students the kind of advanced education they need to succeed in the workforce.

But students who are not here legally may still face a major obstacle even with the benefit of a college degree: Many have no immediate pathway to legal status and, under current federal immigration law, employers cannot legally hire them.

"I know of students who have graduated magna cum laude and top honors in their colleges, but right now they're working minimum wage in restaurants," said Antonio Albizures-Lopez, 20, who came to the U.S. from Guatemala when he was 1.

Albizures-Lopez, who is pursuing legal residency, says the best solution is passage of federal legislation, known as the DREAM Act, which provides a pathway to legal residency for college students.

Since most “illegals” in Mexico travel by bus, do you know what I saw the police do to “suspects’ in Mexicali MX?

As they got off they would pick out the smallish Aztec looking fellows and ask them one thing: Sing the Mexican National Anthem.

They fell into three groups: The Mexicans who had no problem. The Guatemalan Aztecs who knew nothing. And I heard one guy, I swear to God, started to sing “Oh Say Can You See...”.

Maybe he thought they asked for the National Anthem of where they were headed.

Other than that the illegals are arrested on the spot and then not sent just across the border. Mexico sends them to the Capital City of the country from whence they came. I LOVE this idea.

Living in a bubble of Marxist criminality doesn’t pay off in the long run? Who knew?

But,but,but... students who are here illegally but somehow have graduated magna cum laude and have top honors in their colleges, which they should never been allowed in the first place, are willing to jobs that students that are legal US citizens who have graduated magna cum laude and who have top honors in their colleges are not willing to do???

They don’t want to be legal.. if they wanted that it’s what they would have done to begin with. They get all the freebies they want being here illegally.

Lincoln Chafee is a disaster for that state.

An absolute disaster.

This is precisely why it makes absolutely no sense to give illegal aliens or their illegal offspring state resident tuition tax breaks. It rewards criminal activity and doesn’t really help anybody.

Boo hoo. Cry me a river. I know that a lot of legal American citizens who graduated from the top of their class are now waiting on tables. And there are a lot of middle aged Americans who can’t find work—millions of them. Where’s the sympathy for them. They’re told they’ve been out of work so long they’re unemployable. Spare me the tears about illegals.

Did the citizens who are forced to pay for the educations of these illegals have a say in whether they would pay or not?

There needs to be a way to bring the politicians back into line. They don’t even care what the citizens want or need any more. Elections don’t seem to matter much; the politicians will do what they want, and scoff at the citizens who want otherwise.

If those politicians are so gung-ho about letting illegals go to American schools at American expense, they should have to cover the costs themselves. No more stealing from taxpayers for bad causes.
