Obama appeals tough new Alabama immigration law
Yahoo News ^ | 10/7/2011

The Obama administration on Friday sought to repeal a harsh new Alabama law on immigration, setting up the latest clash between the White House and Republican state leaders over the thorny issue of undocumented migrants.

The Justice Department urged the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta to overturn a ruling that let stand much of state law HB 56, which makes it a crime to be undocumented in Alabama and allows schools to check the immigrant status of students.

Opponents say the measures -- even harsher than the deeply controversial laws established last year in Arizona -- are largely unconstitutional and amount to racial profiling, while supporters insist the state is merely implementing policy that Washington has been too weak to enforce itself.

From the article...

"The sweeping scheme is highly likely to expose persons lawfully in the United States, including school children, to new difficulties in routine dealings with private persons and the state," Justice said in its filing.

It argued that the law "creates a panoply of new state offenses that criminalize, among other things, an alien's failure to comply with federal registration requirements... an alien's attempt to solicit or perform work, and an alien's attempt to interact with... government."

The Department of Justice also insisted the provisions "invade the federal government's exclusive authority over immigration," and asked the court to issue an injunction pending the appeal.

I heard a news report today that said many LEGAL immigrants were not showing up to work or school in Alabama for fear of being deported.

1) If I were a LEGAL immigrant, I’d walk through the doors with the Star Spangled Banner blaring out 12db from a ghetto blaster with my laminated green card in hand screaming in English, “let’s get to work, amigos!” This fear thing is a bunch of crap.

2) If there were any who were legitimately scared of being hassled, should not that anger be better directed at the scumbag aliens who broke the law and cut in front of them in line, pouring over the border like termites necessitating such a law?

ROLL FRICKIN’ TIDE! & FUBO!

Why am I not surprised?

Almost anything good for America is opposed by President Obama. I wish we could take back the senate in 2012, and get back the White House, and then pass an Alabama style law at the federal government level; and deny federal funding to sanctuary cities.

So true. Only a year to go with this nitwit. I just hope we can survive it because I know without a doubt like a runner sprinting towards the finish, he is going to step up his reign of destruction 1000 fold. Unemployment up to 20% Gas up to 8 bucks a gallon, stock market crash (which they are attempting to do right now) WW3 starts when The Muslim brotherhood helped into power by Obama attacks Israel on all sides resulting in the nukes flying. Remember when Bush said the terrorists will hit us where and how we least expect it? The guy was spot on. So ironic it would be through the very same office he once held.

which makes it a crime to be undocumented in Alabama

Frickin' liberals can never stop lying. It is already a crime to be undocumented in any state. That is why they are called illegal aliens.

I heard a news report today that said many LEGAL immigrants were not showing up to work or school in Alabama for fear of being deported.

You know this report is a bunch of BS. Why would a legal immigrant be afraid to report to work or school? Just another attempt to turn people against immigration laws.

He doesn't need a basis - he's a protester.

The Staes need to take a pre-emptive stance and tell the Feds to pound sand. The Constitution limited the Feds power and gave most powers to the States/People. The need to take a stance that just because you can find a judge that is willing to twist the meaning and intent of the Constitution out of shape for political purposes, does not make the ruling binding in any way. We have the reference document and it doesn't take a genius to undertsnad and abide by it.

In Mobile our local news has a tear jerking story EVERY DAY about hispanic children not showing up at school and farmers can’t harvest their crops. Every day they run the same story. There are three points about illegal immigration that I don’t think a lot of people know:

Legal aliens are required by law to have their immigration documents on them at all times.

The e verify system does not work. Hispanic citizens’ names and social security numbers are being used to make fake ssn cards. Calling e verify will get an affirmative response. The governemnt is too stupid to realize that 200 Jose Garcias with the same ssn are working in jobs all over the country.

Illegal aliens already seriously affect our political process and that is suicidal for a country.

The Birmingham News yesterday had a front page story reporting that an organization called Grow Alabama had pages of legal U.S. citizens wanting to go pick the fields left by the illegals who are leaving Alabama. Transportation seems to be the problem, but Grow Alabama is doing what they can and hopes churches with vans and other volunteers will help people who want to work get to these fields where the farmers say their produce is rotting.

I have noticed on a nearby golf course the Mexican workers have left and have been replaced by non Mexicans. The situation is sad for many families, but the federal government has caused the problem.

I wonder how much this person is paid to spout such gibberish. Heck - I don’t even know what it means - “private persons” and “the state”? If someone is lawfully in the country, what is the problem?

What kind of test does one have to take and pass to be hired by the federal government? Obviously none.
