You can talk all you want but you don’t have to lie.
The Texas Rangers are not large enough in size to deploy the amount of force needed on the border as well as do all of their other duties.
It was never designed to secure the border. It was designed to work within Tx on intrastate needs. It is also limited by federal lack of enforcement and federal laws as to what it can do.
However, deploying them to the border is not an act of someone who is for “open borders” if by that is meant, not bothering to secure the border against unlawful entry.
Perry does not pretend that the Ranger force makes up for lack of federal enforcement, because everyone knows it doesn’t make up for it.
We do what we can, and the fact is, he asks for troops and is not just refused, his request isn’t even answered yes or no, simply ignored.

Why don’t you and your fellow Pennsylvanians take up a collection for Texas and we’ll add it to the pot of state money that we’re spending to help secure the 1250 mile section of the international border that we share with Mexico.
And while you are at it, send down some of those Pennsylvanian Rangers to help relive our lawmen standing sentry on the border, putting their lives on the line to protect and defend the country.
That was then this is now....the immigrants who came here when that phrase was popular are NOT the immigrants coming here now....they are pouring over the borders and that without going thru the immigration laws in place of which immigrants once abided by.
How do I translate that now...."
"Take care of your own tired. poor and huddled masses"..."Change your own government and create a nation in Mexico which you can be proud of"
Had Perry stopped cow-towing to Mexico and maintaining an "open" border the people of Mexico likely would have risen up long ago and changed their governance.....it's too easy to step over the border and have it handed to them in our country...and they do just that....and more now by stating time and time again ...."we aren't illegals...we've just returned to our home"
But he wont support securing the border. He supports sending US troops to Mexico but not to the border.
Google, Bing or any of the other search engines would help you increase your knowledge of what Perry has said and done regarding border security....

Texas is a "tax donor" state. For every dollar we send in to the feds, we get back 94 cents.
Last night on the local news, they were showing the new jobs south of San Antonio to do with shale oil production. Aside from the actual oil field jobs, there are tons of support businesses sprouting up, whether it's retail, housing, or support as far as equipment, logistics, etc.
The former mayor of San Antonio was interviewed. He said that companies are hiring. Not for 40,000 to 60,000, but that a truck driver could make one hundred thousand dollars a year.
So, here we have an economic boom, expected to last fifty years. Then we have the EPA saying the sand lizard might be at risk, and all this new domestic oil production is a threat to it.
I'm not sure who is trying to push the economy and jobs out of the way in this primary season, but on jobs,the economy and overburdening regulation, Perry and Texas "gets it".
Mozilo's Countrywide had been the first to embrace the homeownership push back in 1995 and had therefore become a central player in Clinton's public-private partnership.
And since 1998, Countrywide had also become crucial to the fortunes of Fannie Mae, and the personal wealth of Fannie employees who received special mortgage deals from the lender...

I believe border security falls under the domain of the Federal government, not the state. What has your gov and state done to help?

If there is on issue which Perry has made a personal crusade, it is lawsuit reform. Working with the legislature, he has helped pass curbs on frivolous lawsuits, implemented a first-in-the-nation system under which loser pays all court costs in many lawsuits, and reformed medical malpractice law.
Dick Weekley, the co-founder of Texans for Lawsuit Reform, says Perry showed genuine political courage in resisting calls for watered-down reforms that wouldn’t have addressed the core problem. He recalls that in 2002 Perry vetoed a bill strongly supported by doctors that would have required them to prompt payment from health maintenance organizations. In the eyes of the tort reform advocates, the bill was a Trojan Horse compromise negotiated between doctors and trial lawyers. “There was a huge response from physicians [against the veto],” Kim Ross, the former top lobbyist for the Texas Medical Association, said. TMA went so far as to endorse Tony Sanchez, Perry’s millionaire Democratic opponent in the 2002 election. “Perry sent a signal that he wanted real reform and would stand his ground,” Weekley told me. “Soon the medical lobbyists playing footsie with the trial lawyers were gone and the obstacles to real reform started falling.” [end excerpt]
