WINSTONíS WARNING FOR OBAMA
Powerline ^ | October 7,2011 | STEVEN HAYWARD

Posted on 10/08/2011 7:58:12 AM PDT by Hojczyk

’ve spent a perfectly delightful Friday working on a writing project that has required me to nose around a lot of old material on Franklin Roosevelt, and at some point it was inevitable that I would re-read for the hundredth time Winston Churchill’s fine essay on FDR in Great Contemporaries. Churchill was an admirer of FDR’s (meeting FDR was like taking your first sip of champagne, Churchill wrote), and generally a fan of the New Deal. There’s one passage, though, that seems freshly salient in the time of Obama and Occupy Wall Street:

A second danger to President Roosevelt’s valiant and heroic experiments seems to arise from the disposition to hunt down rich men as if they were noxious beasts. It is a very attractive sport, and once it gets started quite a lot of people everywhere are found ready to join in the chase. Moreover, the quarry is at once swift and crafty, and therefore elusive. The pursuit is long and exciting, and everyone’s blood is infected with its ardour. The question arises whether the general well-being of the masses of the community will be advanced by an excessive indulgence in this amusement. The millionaire or multi-millionaire is a highly economic animal. He sucks up with sponge-like efficiency money from all quarters. In this process, far from depriving ordinary people of their earnings, he launches enterprise and carries it through, raises values, and he expands that credit without which on a vast scale no fuller economic life can be opened to the millions. To hunt wealth is not to capture commonwealth.

No wonder Obama sent the Churchill bust back from the Oval Office.

To hunt the wealthy is not to capture common wealth.

I really like the last sentence in that quote.

he also said...

"If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." Winston Churchill

God created order out of chaos.

Marxists/Communists bring chaos from order.

They create nothing, only lie, steal, subject and murder. Worst of all they kill the human spirit.

They knowingly or unknowingly all serve the father of lies.

Good post. Leftism is nothing without lies.

We got an American Lenin, not Jimmy Carter II. A committed marxist forced reluctantly to work within the system to bring it down. Carter was just a useful idiot, an American liberal.

The truly wealthy don't need a whole lot of defending. Many if not most of them are lifelong Democrats and big Obama supporters. It's the ones in the middle who need defending, the small to medium businessmen who are 90% Republican and whom Obama sees as his natural prey. They are the ones who pay taxes and employ workers. They are the ones who are stuck here because they can't or won't outsource to China. They are the ones who don't have their meat hooks in government and get fancy deals like Solyndra and GE.

I won't shed a tear for Buffet and Blankfein and Immelt. They're doing just fine palling it up with Zero.

Excellent quote. Too bad Obama hates Churchill. Any quote of Churchill's will fall on deaf ears as far as Obama is concerned.

Marxists/Communists...knowingly or unknowingly all serve the father of lies.

"Even the striving for equality by means of a directed economy can result only in an officially enforced inequality - an authoritarian determination of the status of each individual in the new hierarchical order." -- F. A. Hayek

That’s wrong. Most of the wealthy are conservative.

“Most of the wealthy are conservative.”

That’s what the media and the President want you to believe.

Well, I have been around wealthy folks my entire life and all have been conservative. Of course, I did grow up in the South.

The French Revolution was financed with Rothschild money. The Russian Revolution was financed by American bankers.
