I’ll be there. Planning to take the day before off as well.

Yep you’re still shooting locals. They don’t have an urgency to find the safety of others because they live there and know their habitat. When the lakes freeze up nort they move to the rivers, when the rivers freeze they move south. That’s when you’ll see the migration. That’s also when you’re most likely to get jewelry. Next to hunting for your dog the second most satisfying thing is getting jewelry. Goose jewelry is most common but duck jewelry is pretty rare. I’ve only got one duck band my entire life and it was on a mallard, the most common of the rare.

Sounds like a glorious evening except you don’t have a football bat handy.

Picked up my CZ-82 yesterday morning. I’m like a kid on Christmas Day!

I ordered it from J&G Sales and paid the extra $10 for Hand Select. They were listed as “Good to Very Good” condition. I’m not sure that I would rate the one I received as Very Good. I would rate it as EXCELLENT! I simply could not believe how good the finish on this pistol is!

The pictures on J&G’s web site showed the normal holster wear and numerous scratches and dings in the factory paint. Most all of the CZs I’ve seen at gun shows were in very ratty condition. The one I received looks like it was stored in some officer’s desk drawer. I sincerely doubt that this one saw everyday carry. I had already planned on having to DuraKote my CZ. Not this one. In fact, I’m considering putting some kind of light clear coat over it to protect the original finish since it’s in such good shape.

Hopefully I can post some pics. (Our ISP is hosed right now and running very slow when it is running.)

Function:

50 rounds of PPU 93 grain FMJ: Perfect. No failures.

50 rounds of Blazer 95 grain TMJ: Perfect. No failures.

50 rounds of Silver Bear 94 grain HP: Perfect. No failures.

Just a few notes on ammo: It’s obvious these critters will eat anything. The only reason I ran the Blazer through it is because it was the only box in town that I could find. It was crappy aluminum cased stuff that probably isn’t even worthy of shooting rats with. I paid $25 for a box of 50 at Gander Mountain because I wanted to have something to try it out with on the first day. Naturally, when I got home I found that my order from AIM Surplus had arrived 2-3 days earlier than expected. Jeesh.

The Silver Bear ammo did something kind of peculiar. I noticed sparks flying out of the muzzle while shooting it. None of the other ammo did this. At first I was concerned but then I realized that it was propellant that was still burning after the round left the barrel. Never seen that one before. The ammo seemed to have normal power and accuracy. I guess it comes with a built-in fireworks display!

Accuracy:

This pistol is more dammed accurate than I am! Is it legal for a pistol to be this accurate? :) (Hopefully, a couple of target picks to follow.)

Handling:

As you guys have mentioned, the CZ82 is a natural pointer. The grip feels perfect in my hand. The trigger is nice and wide (no trigger shoe needed for this one). DA and SA pull are easy and smooth. The front and rear sites have perfect white highlighting. (The only other thing I could ask for is maybe night sights down the road.)

I am EXTREMELY pleased with this purchase!

I really only have two very minor negative comments:

The spare surplus magazine I ordered with it works well except it does not hold the slide back on last round fired (the new looking one that came in the pistol does.) Anyone know any tricks on how to fix this?

The holster that came with it is in very good condition. It’s a rugged leather police holster made by Zubicek. My problem with this holster is that it is designed for “locked and cocked” carry only. The retention strap will only fit between the hammer and firing pin. It will not go around the back of the hammer or the backstrap of the pistol. I have been getting used to carrying DA with one in the chamber and no safety (due to my KelTec P11 with is DAO only). In fact, I’m not sure that I would really consider this holster a safe design due to the CZ82 having an ambidextrous safety. There is nothing to prevent the outboard safety lever from being “bumped” into the “FIRE” position. I like the first shot to be DA so I don’t have to mess with a safety in a stressful situation. Just draw and pull the trigger. Quite frankly, the DA action on this pistol is so easy and smooth I really see no need to carry it “locked and cocked”. I won’t be using this holster.

This is a great gun!

I thought I was done reloading for the football bat, but it's been warm around here and the tree rats (grey) and wabbits are getting out of hand. I've been knocking the fur off the critters for two weeks. Some of them have made a trip to the county landfill.

I don’t shoot those flying tree rats. They are no trouble, just entertaining.

Cool, We are thinking of dinner at the H3 ranch at the Fort Worth stockyards Friday night (I think its friday)

Maybe yall can join us?
Mainly We are just gonna drag Ms Behavin around the stockyards since she has never been.
We’ll eat dinner and have a few drinks.

At anyrate, I was wondering if you were gonna make any awesome cobbler for the shoot cuz I was kinda thinking of making cobbler and I would hate for us to duplicate the effort

That is So cool!

We had a Rocky in our first house, an A-Frame wit cedar interior walls. It would climb up the two story walls because my Cocker Spaniel was chasing it and fly down, rinse and repeat. Finally we got smart and opened the door, put away the dog and it eventually left.

“deer gun”?

I know, doesn't make any sense to me either. No telling where the name came from (maybe some CIA desk jockey).

Don’t shoot Rocky, they are very rare and don’t cause the problems regular tree rats do.

Excellent!

I am very happy that you are please with it and got a good specimen.

I had my CZ75B(40 SW) out to the range yesterday and love what a tack driver it is.

I have decided I am bringing that and the CZ82 as well as a CZ52 to the 6th annual TCMS shoot as my pistol compliment.

Did I mention that I like CZ’s?

RE: Silver Bear ammo
Yeah, I noticed the same thing. Dirty as sin, but the CZ doesn’t care. It eats everything.

If it eats Silver Bear HP’s you are rock solid.

I made a blackberry last time. I tried an apple while camping last Christmas. Yummy. I could do one or both this time.
