Debate: Has President Obama lived up to his Nobel Peace Prize? (With Poll to FReep)
CNN ^ | October 10, 2011 | Amar C. Bakshi

Posted on 10/10/2011 6:15:19 AM PDT by rightwingintelligentsia

The following is an excerpt of my interview with Thorbjørn Jagland, Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which is responsible for awarding the Nobel Peace Prize. In this section, Jagland speaks about whether Obama lived up to the expectations of the Nobel Peace Prize he was awarded in 2009. The rest of the interview will be published later today covering topics from the tragedy in Norway to Europe's role in Central Asia.

Has President Obama lived up to his Nobel Peace Prize?

Yes, I think so. I’m as convinced as I was when he got it that he deserved it for many reasons. He changed so many things in American foreign policy; During three months’ time, he, for instance and that’s what’s the main reason why he got the prize, namely that he paved the way for new negotiations with the Russian Federation about nuclear arms. If you look at the will of Alfred Nobel that goes directly to what he said that the prize should go to the person that has worked for - he called it reduction of standing armies but in today’s terms it means arm control and disarmament. So President Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize because he paved the way for such negotiations; he said that he was willing to discuss the nuclear shield of Europe and therefore, the Russians were beginning to come back to the table and negotiations started again.

I know it's an online poll and it's CNN, but I can't believe that 22.75% actually answered "yes"!

(Where have they been for the last 2 years and 8 1/2 months????)

“...Debate: Has President Obama lived up to his Nobel Peace Prize?...”

Not no, but he!! no. Remember this. he was given this once proud award not for what he did, (which was absolutely nothing), but for what he MIGHT do (which has been absolutley nothing). The Nobel committee said that, not me.

If you base the award on empty words and promises instead of results, then the answer is a resounding yes. Liberalism in a nutshell.

I'm with you. I would have answered "yes" for the same reason.

Of course he is~!

After all, he was elected to close Gitmo and end the war in Iraq and Afghanistan and end the Patriot Act and not kill people in Pah-kee-stahn, and he’s done all those things, right? Give him ANOTHER one!

Which proves it is a farce of an award.

They awarded a man for things never done. Just talk. What does that tell you about these presenters. You might as well hand it out to a used car salesman on his promises.

Asinine!!!

“Has President Obama lived up to his Nobel Peace Prize?”

I thought it was the other way around. You qualify for a prize ... THEN you get it.

Ronald Reagan had REAL reduction in nuclear arms, during the time when Russia (USSR) was in a Cold War. No Peace Prize for the Gipper or Gorby.

However, the Nobel Peace prize committee feels that Obama has the promise of maybe starting negotiations to maybe reduce arms with a Russian entity that doesn’t represent any kind of significant threat. Meanwhile, Obama allows REAL threats in Iran and North Korea to go virtually unchecked, and has encouraged rebles to take over Libya without any consideration of what the rebels will do with Libya’s enormous stash of anti-aircraft weapons.

Ronald Reagan actually won this peace almost 20 years ago and freed hundreds of millions from the Soviet gulags of Eastern Europe. His reward? Bupkis. No Nobel Prize. Just spite and scorn from the same liberal asshats who grovelled to give it to arch-terrorist Yassir Arafat for achieving a phony peace and to Barack Obama merely for being half-black.

There is is no real honor or dignity attached to winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Liberals have no honor or dignity.

Giving a nobel peace prize on future greatness has failed miserably.

Considering that the Nobel Peace Prize is worth about as much as t*rd in a supermarket, I’d say that Obama has lived up to rather well.

“...a used car salesman...”

A very appropriate comparison to Obabma. However, that would be an insult to used car salesmen. At least, they have SOME integrity.

Since the Nobel “Peace” price has become an empty zero, a mere conduit for the International Left to propagandize their diseased agenda, then I would yes, most definitely, the arrogant Race Marxist has definitely earned their meaningless platitudes.
