It will be interesting and informative to see if they do. If some of the Senate Republicans don't use this to full advantage it tells us how serious they are about everything, especially repealing DeathCare.
Here is some serious tin foil hat speculation for you, not saying I think this, just grist for the mill:
Suppose some of the Republican Senators don't want DeathCare repealed? Those libs and RINOs that lord over us because they are our "betters". Suppose they are hoping to get control of the chamber and the WH (Romney would be their guy), and using the despotic powers of the HC law to run roughshod over the proletariat (us)? They could be having the fantasy of using it to control us and staying in power for the long haul.
This notion is just for idle fun. But we would be foolish to think that all of the Pubbie Senators even want to overturn the law.
Now he's getting his chance to put up or shut up.
Skilled chess players lose all the time because of timidity.
“Even worse for Democrats, the tactics Reid employed to change a Senate precedent could make it easier for Republicans to justify using similar procedures to force simple-majority votes on hugely contentious issues, such as repealing Democratic priorities like health care reform and Wall Street regulations, Senate experts on both sides of the aisle said Friday.
“For instance, if a senator tries to offer an amendment repealing the health care law to a bill after a filibuster has been defeated and its ruled out of order by the parliamentarian, the chamber could presumably vote by a simple majority to overturn that ruling. And the amendment could stay pending to the bill, which could be then be adopted by a vote in the full Senate.
“And if theres a Republican president and Republican Congress in 2013, the GOP could be in a position to run roughshod over the Senate minority.”
I like it. Repeal Obummer DeathCare with a simple majority vote.
Look’s like Dirty Harry’s and Obummber’s chickens may come home to roost after all.
Unless, of course, the Republicans fold as they always do, having spines made of wet noodles.
But I can dream.
” - - - Any one of those Senators can bring business in the upper chamber to a halt merely by objecting to requests for unanimous consent on routine business say, dispensing with the reading of bills. That would transform business that would normally take a couple of minutes into long, drawn-out votes to proceed that would take 60 votes to pass.”
This is MARVELOUS! Thank you, Senator Reidy-Bad! Slow down the regulation-cranking machine!
They've always had that ability. That any bill gets through the senate without being read is a disgrace to our republic.
LOL! Oh, OK.
He looks like a Chess Master you know like the guy who disappeared? I expect a deal to be cut so the entitled minority can still live the life of Riley on the taxpayer dime.
McConnel is institutionalized, and is out matched, by an idiot. Pelosie sounds brain damaged but no one stopped her, while Boner has done nothing but try to build a consensus, with people that have nothing less than the destruction of the Constitution in mind.
Expect nothing from the current leadership, then if actually do something you can rejoice.
“I dont understand why Reid did this. Does he now think he can get Obozos mess of a tax bill passed?”
Because Obama needs to portray the Republicans as obstructionist & now they will be. Obama doesn’t really want that jobs bill passed, & its got some poison pills in it that even the Dems won’t put up with. Running against EVIL Republicans is what they need to do, & the LSM will happily carry their water.
Yeah, total gridlock. Congress walks out from frustration and the people will clamor for a savior. That’s how you get a dictator... the man on the horse who rides in and saves the planet. Watch out folks.
