I just bought a 4 lb. (64 oz.) container at HEB (house brand) for $5.17 today. Most of their house brands are pretty good. I have bought their peanut butter before and like it.

I use it for baking. I stock up when they go on sale with coupons so I get them for very little. Now if they go up by $1 or more, bye bye free/cheap peanut butter.

I thought peanut butter was banned everywhere by now!

I was on a flight recently, sitting near the back of the plane (a 767). The flight attendant came back to tell us that because someone sitting in our section (approx. last 15 rows) had a nut allergy, none of us would be served peanuts.

Loss of the dollar as the world’s reserve currency is one of the paramount risks out there and it’s not being taken seriously. I find the lax attitudes disturbing.

What are you worried about. The dollar will always be the world's reserve currency. Just like how the credit rating if the USA would never be downgraded. Just ask "Turbo-Tax" Timmy Gartner.

We got 3.75 inches over the weekend. That is more than the total rainfall over the past 12 months. Since last October we had received between 2.5 and 2.9 inches of rain.

No one living has seen a weather pattern like this year in TX.

1895 might have been similar. Some of my ancestors left Haskell County due to the drought then. They came back in 1898.

I am just praying the drought is broken now.

Anyone know if PB is edible after freezing?

It’s possible.. They do sell frozen PB&J sandwiches (uncrustables), peanut butter cookie dough, desserts, etc.
This is what I found searching:

Can You Freeze Peanut Butter?

Peanut butter can be frozen, provided that a few simple precautions are followed to insure the continued viability of the product.

Freezing is Possible
Freezing of peanut butter is possible to extend the shelf life, provided that the container is sealed air tight. Because of the oils in peanut butter, the shelf life of the product naturally is quite long when stored at room temperature and freezing is generally not recommended.

Oil Will Separate
The primary concern with freezing peanut butter is that the oil will separate when thawed. Although the appearance and texture of the peanut butter will be affected by this separation, the product is still safe to eat.

Storage at Room Temperature
Peanut butter may be stored for extended periods of time at room temperature without any harm befalling the product. Most products will remain viable for at least a year if stored at room temperature. According to Peter Pan Peanut Butter, the shelf-life of its product is 18 months.

Refrigerate Rather Than Freeze
For locations where the room temperature will be warm, it is recommended that peanut butter be refrigerated. Refrigeration will also maintain the flavor of the product. However, refrigerated peanut butter will be more difficult to spread.

Jif Peanut Butter’s web site recommends that any of its product that is not eaten within the first three month’s of opening, should be refrigerated to retain the best flavor. Neither Jif nor Peter Pan recommend freezing peanut butter.

Keep Tightly Sealed
Exposure to air and heat will have a negative impact on peanut butter. For that reason it is best to keep the container tightly sealed.

What Happens When You Freeze Peanut Butter?
In general, peanut butter has a shelf life of about 18 months when stored at room temperature. However, that shelf life can be extended by freezing the peanut butter. Freezing peanut butter can have some side effects that may undesirable, including decreased spreadability, freezer burn and oil separation.

Decreased Spreadability
As peanut butter gets cold, the product firms up and becomes much more difficult to remove from the jar, let alone spread over a piece of warm toast. Bear in mind that after removing frozen peanut butter from the fridge, you will need to either warm the product in the microwave or allow it to return slowly to room temperature in order to ensure maximum spreadability.

Oil Separation
As peanut butter freezes, some separation of oils can occur. While this can be a bit off-putting for people unfamiliar with similar phenomena occurring in all-natural peanut butter, this separation of oil from the product does not impair safety of the product. Vigorous stirring with or without heat can help to reconstitute the peanut butter spread after the oils have separated due to freezing.

Crystallization
If not tightly sealed, moisture in the air of the packaging can freeze, causing the formation of ice crystals or freezer burn. To minimize the formation of ice crystals, you may want to spoon the peanut butter from its original jar into plastic freezer bags, pressing all the air out before sealing them up.

Possible Effects on Flavor
The manufacturers of Peter Pan brand peanut butter suggest that storing peanut butter in the fridge in very warm climates can help to maintain the product’s optimum flavor more effectively than keeping it at room temperature. However, they do not state whether freezing peanut butter can have similar flavor-retaining properties, so you may want to compare the taste of peanut butter kept at room temperature, the fridge and the freezer to see which you prefer. However, it is worth noting that the makers of Peter Pan peanut butter do not recommend freezing their product as a general rule.

Freezing Foods With Peanut Butter
Foods that contain peanut butter, such as cookies or snack bars, are usually okay to freeze, and some notable jelly makers have branched out into the frozen PB&J sandwich market. In addition, some desserts containing peanut butter are designed to be frozen, such as frozen peanut butter pie or Martha Stewart’s frozen peanut butter and chocolate sandwiches.

Freezing will cause the oil to separate when thawed. The fridge would be much better for longer storage.

Thanks for the info- I think that I’ll buy a few extra jars and refrigerate them.

I wasn’t aware that soybutter for sale in North America was produced in China. That’s asking for serious quality control problems, to say the least.

When Elvis croaked in 1977 falling off his gold plated john in the wee hours of August morning reading a non-fiction book about Jesus who had landed an alien from another planet, while Ginger Alden was asleep in the adjacent bedroom (they was living in sin!), I immediately shorted peanut butter stocks, and, Lord, was that a prescient move: I am now sitting pretty, having sent my children to the finest universities on Earth, bought property in the South of France, and retired early on the proceeds drinking the finest Cognacs and eating gourmet arugula (among other consumable things). Thank you Elvis, thank you peanut butter.

We've got 54 lbs (18 3lb jars) of PB in our stash, or as I like to remind the wife that's effectively 108 lbs should she mysteriously disappear.

George Washington Carver didn’t patent peanut butter because someone else beat him to it.

Really; it is bizarre to hear that mantra repeated ad nauseum while anyone with eyes can see right through it. Groceries, gasoline, metals, etc. are all up, but we’re supposed to believe there is no inflation. Maybe they’re right, because the increase in all of those items might be offset by the decline in value of our homes.

As long as Social Security payments are tied to inflation, there are billions of good reasons for the official line to be: there is NO inflation.

“Isn’t it amazing? I have a friend in NZ who requests Miracle Whip.

Who says America doesn’t have a culture? ;~)”

Certainly no Spam fans would ignore our contribution to world cuisine; even the Euro-snobs were flocking to it when they had a choice of Mad Cow diseaes from their beef or hoof-and-mouth disease from other livestock...

The people who invented Marmite and Vegemite to combat Vit B deficiencies have absolutely no grounds for food snobbery, IMO. A lot of folks who didn’t grow up w/peanut butter find it gagsome, though, so conditioning plays a role.

Then there is Ketchup, or, salsa Americain, as it is labeled in the Caribbean. It is very bland compared with the versions from other cuisines.

And Oreos. A lot of Brits find them disappointing compared to their own varieties of chocolate ‘biscuits’.

To stay on topic, every one of the above has increased in price and diminished in quantity over the past few years and not just from poor harvests. I wonder if that will change when there is no longer an agricultural issue?

That’ll hurt budgets. Peanut butter was an inexpensive source of protein.

I know Moochelle is trying to shrink the size of American kids but this is getting ridiculous.

Interestingly, my dietician has recommended peanut butter sandwiches as a between meal snack to regulate blood sugar levels and hunger.

Add chocolate fudge, and you can attract a good number of females.
