BAGHDAD Iraq is considering multiple options regarding the future of the US military presence, ranging from a limited mission to no trainers whatsoever, a top official told AFP on Monday.
The remarks from Ali al-Alaak, the general secretary of the cabinet, come amid an apparent impasse between Washington's requirement of legal immunity for any US troops serving here beyond year-end, and a statement from Iraqi political leaders that there was "no need" for such protections.
"The US is insisting on that, and Iraq is insisting on not giving that," Alaak said in an interview. He said there were a variety of options being considered, adding that "there could be no training" at all.

How about we agree to no legal immunity for Iraqi diplomats here in the uS?
“No need for that” either.
I’ll say the same thing I said since 2003: It’s time to get out of Iraq. Eight years later, I’m even less sure why we invaded that God-forsaken land to begin with. What a waste of lives and perfectly good ammunition.
All that Iraqi purple ink has worn off leaving the Iranians with a puppet government to oversee. “Mission Accomplished”.
I agree. We should leave that place and take all our stuff with us.
If we ever invade another oil-rich dung hole in the Middle East again, we had better at least get some low cost oil contracts out of it.
If the only mission is training, why can’t they send the people over here to be trained and PAY FOR IT?
I know why we invaded, the immediate urgancy was Russian telling Bush that Saddam planned to back a follow-up to 911, plus Saddamss agressive efforts to become WMD capable and the future prospects for the West and the Iraqi people of a Iraq ruled by psychopaths Uday and Qusay.
The strategic goal: address and replace the so-called root causes of terrorism and anti-westernism. Iraq was the anti-west, but with the resources (natural and social) to achieve a democratic secular state, under enlightened government and social policy (NONE of which conditions exist in Afghanistan, talk about a waste of time).
However, the people of Iraq have proven themselves unworthy of our sacrifice. The elites that became the government in the so-called democratic institutions we created, are double-talking tea drinking carpet sellers. and the people of Afghanistan always have been and always will be unworthy and incapable.
Cold hard facts.
and give them no legal immunity while they are here
I doubt very much that they trust those in charge not to become just as bad as Sodamn Hinsane
A little more support and some gratitude would be nice....and we'll think about staying and continuing to protect your sorry asses. Maybe.
Lets get out now.
Not another dime.
But the plan is to leave all our equipment behind. Leaving some spent brass on the ground is understandable but all our equipment including tanks, howitzers and etc,. We will be battling it sooner rather then later.
We averted what could have been a nightmare - Saddam sitting in control of the Gulf and its oil, armed with a crude nuke. He would have used it too. Sorry to say that Gulf Wars I and II cost many young people their lives, but their sacrifice was not in vain. Their rulers should be clear on why the wars were fought and how to avoid similar ones in future.
As God once said, “...don’t make me come down there again!...”
“However, the people of Iraq have proven themselves unworthy of our sacrifice.”
Its called nation building. Most folks understand its a stupid idea and not worth attempting. Dubya is not most folks - he’s an imbecile who blew countless billions of OUR tax dollars trying to civilize the nutcases over there. What a pathetic waste.
We have fools running our government and our top military brass is a their servile minions. Our enlisted troops and the Field and Company Grade officers deserve better leadership.
