Crackdown on illegals begins here; 4 arrested

Four people charged during the weekend under Alabama’s new immigration law pleaded guilty Monday in Decatur Municipal Court.

The four would have been released after pleading to willful failure to procure alien registration documents, a Class C misdemeanor under Section 10 of the law, but Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials had placed holds on them earlier Monday.

Each agreed to a fine of $100, $196 in court costs, and a 30-day suspended sentence with 12 months of probation.

It was unclear whether anyone at the arraignment was aware ICE had already placed detainers on the defendants.

“I wasn’t aware of an ICE hold. I had no idea if they were going to be detained by ICE at the time,” said City Prosecutor Emily Prater. “... I rarely deal with ICE unless they contact me directly about a particular charge on somebody.”

Paula Soto Navarro, 29, expressed to the judge, through a translator, that she was eager to get the case over with and get out of jail.

I fail to see how these "penalties" create any kind of meaningful disincentive for illegal aliens to keep moving to Alabama.

I would rather they be given six months probation, after which they must voluntarily leave the country. Failure to do so within the allotted time would result in a two-year sentence at hard labor working on the border wall, followed by deportation.

Ideally, that deportation process would include having "Property of Mexico" (or whatever is their country of origin) tattooed on their foreheads prior to deportation. But I can see where that wouldn't be politically feasible.

I saw a big, neatly printed sign on a busy street in Mobile a few days ago. It said, "Who Would Jesus Deport."

I confess, I chuckled.

Alabama Highway Patrol should set up an undercover sting op, where they open some Taqueria’s.... and then just pop the cars
outside with expired tags and inspections.

No muss... no fuss...

If we passed a law like this in Texas (which we can’t with our open borders loving Governor and legislature) we would have to create a whole new and separate law force just to handle the illegals.

I want them to dress just in “civies” and drive unmarked cars so when they pull up to a construction site the cucarachas won’t run. Hehe....

No you wouldn't. What we've learned in Arizona is that they will leave on their own volition once the free bennies start to dry up and the possibility of arrest is always imminent. Now that California has rolled out the welcome mat, the road leaving town is WIDE OPEN.

Add another to the list...ANDALUSIA, AL (WSFA) - Andalusia Police are working with Immigration and Naturalization services after an intoxicated man detained for trying to leave the scene of an accident turned out to be wanted for failure to appear on deportation proceedings.

Andalusia Police say they were dispatched to the scene of a fender-bender on South Three Notch Street shortly after 10:00 Friday night. When an officer arrived on the scene he found 30-year-old Jhimmy David Hernandez Carranza attempting to leave the area. The officer noted Carranza was “obviously intoxicated.” As a result, Carranza was placed in the back seat of the patrol car until the officer could clear the scene.

Lt. Paul Dean says that’s when Carranza started getting violent.

“He started kicking the back window of the patrol car in an attempt to get out. When the officer tried to calm the suspect down, Carranza resisted. The officer deployed a chemical agent which had no effect.”

Dean explained it took two officers, two firefighters and a civilian to subdue the man and place him in handcuffs. When Carranza was lifted to his feet he once again resisted and shouted ‘I’m going to kill you’ at the officer and spit in his face.

“We have reason to believe Carranza is HIV positive at this time. Right now we’re trying to ensure the safety and the health of the officers involved,” said Dean.

Carranza is currently being held on $19,000 bond for charges of Second-Degree Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest, Driving Under the Influence and a Third-Degree Criminal Mischief charge. It was also discovered that Carranza is wanted for failing to appear a deportation proceeding.

Dean said Carranza entered the United States from Honduras in 2001 on a now-expired Handyman work visa and that Carranza never attempted to obtain a Green Card or a Social Security Card.Carranza will first face any current state and local charges against him before being turned over to INS..........http://andalusia.wsfa.com/news/crime/118320-police-intoxicated-man-who-threatened-officer-was-illegal-immigrant

Without the hold on them this is a toothless sentence.. how does one collect or follow them ???
