UCLA Considers 'Gender Inclusive' Dorms (Young men and women could share rooms, in some cases)

UCLA is considering a plan that would put young men and women in the same dorm room, under certain conditions.

The campus newspaper reports "gender inclusive" dorm life, as suggested by UCLA Housing Services, is now being considered by the Office of Residential Life.

The success rate depends on who's involved, according to students.

"I grew up with three brothers. I'm used to living with guys," said student Rachel Luba. "This is my first year living with another girl as a roommate. I would be comfortable with it, especially if it was my brother."

Most requests received by the Office of Residential Life are from "transgender students asking to live with a student of the gender to which they are transitioning," according to the Daily Bruin newspaper.

"I hadn't heard this conversation yet, but it's really nice that it's being had," said student Liam McCoy. "I don't personally know any transgender students."

The university says it's happy to take requests for gender inclusive housing. On a case-by-case basis, it has been a success, according to the school.

Why not? I mean, if homos can get together, why not heteros?

Might as well make it official. The race to the bottom is over.

Nothing new here. My room in the frat house 1969-1973 was “gender inclusive.” We just didn’t call it that at the time.

Unless your brothers were looking for ways to get into your pants, this is not an honest comparison, chica.

Yeah, especially when abortion is a free service under student health.

Because 0.00001% of the people have a problem with their gender, everyone else has to be open/allowed to participate in this?

I thought that college was supposed to prepare kids for real life. In real life they don't have unisex bathrooms where both women and men can go at the same time. But they have this in college.

I had roommates when I graduated. Mostly men. The two times I had a woman roommate went very badly. I can only imagine worse things happening at an earlier age.

This is liberal conditioning of the worst kind.

It’s not about sex.... It’s about being “Brothers and Sisters”....

The cause don’cha know. It’s not sexual(at least for the gelded progressive male).

It’s about an asexual society.

Its interesting that they never mention the person pushing these types of changes, its always the “institution. Here its “UCLA Considers,” not “Director of Housing, John Smith, is pushing...” Media always to protect these freaks.

As a practical matter, they wouldn’t need as many dorm rooms. Space and money could be saved. For instance, right now a twin sized bed in a dorm serves only one student at a time. If the students were naked, it could serve several.

Okay, I’m finished thinking like a senator.

OH HELL NO! If I'm paying good money for an education, the last thing I need is some weepy teen-aged girl 'wanting to talk" about her day.

I raised a little bit of Cain about this kind of thing during culinary school. I worked out the math. I was paying $88.50 +/- a day for instruction. Total instruction time was about 4 hours.

Sure, it's not lawyer rates, but $22/hr is real money for me to spend out of pocket.

I did get square-jawed about it a few times, and instruction continued, more earnestly.

If they want to f***, they can do that for free, somewhere else.

Leave it out of the school where people really want to learn.

Well, the ditz does not see the flaw in her own reasoning. Alas, hers is not an unusual example of student thought at UCLA.

This policy has worked really well in the Navy; it’s resulted in a lot of little sailors.
