WARREN, Ore. - Columbia County Sheriff's Deputies are searching for a suspect after a Warren, Oregon homeowner opened fire when he was awakened by an intruder trying to get into his house.
Warren is located along the Columbia River between Scappoose and St. Helens, Ore.
Deputies said the unidentified man opened fire at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday and they do not know if the suspect was hit by the gunfire. The intruder fled the scene and no suspect information has been released.
Monday morning, deputies sent out a press release saying the homeowner is a federal law enforcement officer With the Federal Protective Service in Portland. His name was not released.
The federal officer also had two police dogs at his residence.
"I was surprised they picked that house to bother," said neighbor Tom Clason.
"I'm glad they picked a house where somebody was able to defend themselves rather than turning out badly for the innocent people," said Mike Loeks, who also lives nearby.
The federal officer's wife and two kids were also home at the time, investigators said. No one was hurt.
Wow. Oregon allows law enforcement officials to own firearms?
Talk about your forward looking state.
Too bad there wasn't a federal law enforcement official in that Seal Beach beauty salon that got shot up a couple of days ago.
Ah, well. Such is life. Government employees lives are more important than your average Joe Sixpack, Suzy Homemaker or Justin Bieber.
The officer needs more time at the range.
Stories like these should ALWAYS include a dead perp. (and a grandma saying “My (insert dead perp’s name here) wouldn’t do that, He’s a good boy”)
I’m guessing Federal officers don’t get much range time, as they’re occupied w setting up security and keeping their eyes open.
Bad form to fire randomly without the target in sight.
Don't understand why he just randomly just fired his gun at the intruder he has 2 police dogs why not just let the dogs out and let them take care of the intruder, or wait till he was in the house then as a officer held him at gunpoint and arrest him or shoot if he moves.
What is wrong with this headline? Answer: This implies that there are right homes and wrong homes for criminals to assault. (You knew I was going to answer my own question.)
But wait, it gets worse.
Monday morning, deputies sent out a press release saying the homeowner is a federal law enforcement officer
Here we have the definition of the "wrong home" to break into - one owned by a law enforcement official. So the implication is if you're NOT a law enforcement official, your home is fair game for criminals.
And now we get to the special treatment
. His name was not released.
If you or I shot at a home invader you can rest assured that that OUR names would be released immediately. And, even more pathetic, the attitudes of the neighbors
"I'm glad they picked a house where somebody was able to defend themselves rather than turning out badly for the innocent people," said Mike Loeks, who also lives nearby
This moron Loeks thinks that unless you're a law enforcement official you won't be able to defend yourself. I'm losing hope for this nation. A better response would be "Everyone here is armed and knows how to defend themselves. The thief is lucky he didn't break into my house."
Don't understand why he just randomly just fired his gun at the intruder he has 2 police dogs why not just let the dogs out and let them take care of the intruder, or wait till he was in the house then as a officer held him at gunpoint and arrest him or shoot if he moves.
Because Federal Agents of any sort are considered to be angels from Heaven. Their judgement is never to be questioned, there is no law that binds them, and application of caution, respect for mankind or common sense should never be an expectation.
Welcome to America's version of a caste system.
Anyone?
Bueller?
Ferris Bueller?
'Series'. What the heck is a 'Federal Leo' doing firing his gun through his door? For all he knows it could have been his drunken 2nd cousin Buford looking for more beer money.
Yet the gun grabbers insist that LEOs should be the only ones allowed to have a gun as they are 'trained'.
Riiiight.
(if we fired our gun through our door at someone 'unknown' we'd be in fricken Jail!)
Okaaaaay......
