The last conservative, Pat Buchanan
The Washington Times ^ | October 13, 2011 | Jeffrey T. Kuhner

Posted on 10/14/2011 9:42:50 AM PDT by re_tail20

Is America in its twilight years? Patrick J. Buchanan argues it is. Americans, especially conservatives, should heed his warnings. The very future of our republic is at stake. Mr. Buchanan has written the political book of the year - and maybe of our time.

In “Suicide of a Superpower” (Thomas Dunne Books, 2011), the nationally syndicated columnist and TV commentator delivers a damning indictment of the past two decades. His thesis: America is in decline. Unless it is reversed, the United States - like great republics before it - will be swept into the dustbin of history.

Mr. Buchanan argues that our leaders have embraced the “New World Order.” Unlimited immigration, free trade, open borders, strident multiculturalism, globalism, a cradle-to-grave welfare state, neo-pagan morality, massive deficit spending and democratic imperialism - together they have triggered the moral, economic and spiritual disintegration of America.

Mr. Buchanan was one of the few conservatives to directly challenge the Great Society Republicanism prevalent throughout the George W. Bush administration. He opposed No Child Left Behind, the Medicare prescription-drug benefit, runaway spending, amnesty for illegal aliens, economic globalization and the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP). He argues that the GOP establishment had lost its ideological way, abandoning principle in favor of power. Niccolo Machiavelli trumped Ronald Reagan.

The author insists that President Obama has accelerated - and deepened - the failed Bush policies. Mr. Obama is seeking to erect a European-style nanny state. Bailouts have propped up big business and big banks, as Middle America was forced to pay for it. Mr. Obama’s trillion-dollar deficits have brought us to the brink of bankruptcy. His economic stimulus failed to create jobs, while it expanded the reach of government - providing more beneficiaries and voters loyal to the Democrats.,,

Pat Buchanan is the "house conservative" over at CNN where he fits the same role as Alan Colmes when he was Sean Hannity's punching bag over at Fox. But hey, CNN's money is green isn't it, Pat?

A lot of good points there, sometimes he really nails it. This seems to be more muted about criticism of Israel and Jews though. Wonder why?

Aside from Biblical references, Israel offers the most freedom and prosperity of any Middle Eastern country I know of. They deserve credit and support for that.

BTW, anyone know whatever happened with the USS Liberty affair? Did they make some kind of amends?

The article reflects Pat's new book and covers his opinions. I see no “anti-Pat tirade” by the author or myself. Pat taking a more libertarian view on foreign policy is just a fact. His ongoing relationship with msnbc seems out of place for a staunch old school conservative. Lending credence to this leftist outfit does nothing but feed the beast.

I believe he's one of the many who had short-lived MSNBC shows. I think they probably owe him money and want to get something out of it.

BTW - Kuhner is a complete fraud. On his unlamented radio show, he was a total neocon who ranted that anyone opposed to any war was an anti-semite. It was all an act. But, this rave review sounds fishy. What's in it for Kuhner?

This reminds me of Michelle Malkin writing a rave review for Hannity’s 2nd book. Then, lo & behold, she was guest hosting his TV show the next week!

The only Conservative Pat Buchanan likes is Pat Buchanan.

That's because the "conservatives" he "hates" are liberals in disguise. A liberal is someone who believe in individual liberty as the greatest good. Such a belief is rampant among "conservatives" in America, but it has nothing to do with real conservatism. Such people have brought this country to where it is today. Real conservatives would never have allowed things to go the way they have. Our current troubles could have been prevented if a real conservative had been elected back in the 1960s. But the GOP wouldn't back a real conservative in 1964, and they won't back one now. Why? Because deep down they are liberals.

Palin, Romney, Cain, Perry, Huntsman, Paul. Bachmann: which would use federal force to close down the abortion industry on Day One? Which would eliminate federal taxation? Which would round up, intern, and deport every illegal alien? Which would regulate industry to serve the national interest? Which would break up concentrations of capital and make laws to favor small business and small farms? Which would militarize the borders? Which would bring the troops home from Europe, Japan, Korea, and elsewhere? Which would build a military force so frightening that no one would dare cross this country? Which would make the eliniation of Medicaid, Medicare, and all other forms of Geezer Welfare his top priority? Which would end federal welfare in all its forms? Which would ignore court orders regarding the so-called constitutional separation between church and state? Which one would zero the budgets of the EPA, FDA, OSHA, EEOC, FBI, DoE, HUD, HHS, NASA, and other federal bureaucracies? Which would round up and imprison genuine subversives? Which would push through laws to make English the sole and official language of government? Which would support state efforts to restore the sodomy laws, adultery laws, divorce laws, and pornography laws? Which would dismantle the nightmarish "civil rights" tyranny that has existed since 1964?

NONE OF THEM, that's who. Because THEY ARE NOT CONSERVATIVES.

Buchanan is the only real conservative left. That's why the fake conservatives hate him. One need not agree with Buchanan on every issue, but hatred of him is a guarantee that one is a liberal "conservative" who buys GOP-brand, Limbagh-pleasin', no-fault divorcing, free-trading, Serb-killing, football-watching, meth-cooking, sweatshop-loving, drywall-contractor Chamber of Commerce "conservatism" by the gallon jug.

Buchanan is right about almost everything. He's right about what's coming, too, God help my children who will be forced to pay the tab we "conservatives" have run up in our futile quest to please bloodthirsty Lady Liberty.

A lot of Buchanon’s take on Israel had to do with giving Israel foreign aid to the tune of 6-7 billion annually. He was against it.

I would bet that the aid will likely go away sometime in the next decade when Israel becomes first energy independent and then a major exporter of oil & gas because of massive recent offshore oilfield discoveries.

Israel will have the same winning combination of high tech and energy that Texas has. At that point giving foreign aid to Israel won’t make much sense.

I can’t “go back to Stormfront”, as I am not and have never been a member of Stormfront. Your comment makes no sense.
