Rick Perry 's campaign team, undaunted by plunge in polls, readies phase two
Washington Post ^ | Oct 15, 2011 | Dan Balz

What he means is that in terms of money raised, organizations in place in early-voting states and policy proposals in the pipeline, everything is on track.

On Friday, Perry delivered his first major policy speech, outlining a series of executive actions that would accelerate exploration and production of domestic energy resources and create, he said, more than a million jobs. The next speech, scheduled for Oct. 25, will outline his plan for the economy, which has been a big hole in his message.

After the economic speech, Perry will tackle border security, foreign policy and government reform. The package of speeches, campaign officials hope, will do what the debates have not done, which is to flesh out Perry's profile as a conservative governor with the ideas and leadership qualities to be president.

In other words, the campaign that Perry's team hoped to run from the beginning will be able to start in earnest. He may have dug himself a deep hole with the four debates he's been in so far, but here in Austin, there is more defiant determination than pessimism in the concrete-walled command post.

I have given up on Perry, the tuition issue along with his debate performances have driven his poll numbers down into the low single digits in key states.

I have moved on.

Perry is only in this to give the nomination to Romney.

Here's the latest New Hampshire GOP Primary. Rick's problem is the better voters get to know him, the LESS likely they are to vote for him.

Romney (R) 41% Cain (R) 20% Paul (R) 10% Undecided 8% Gingrich (R) 6% Huntsman (R) 6% Bachmann (R) 4% Santorum (R) 2% Perry (R) 2% Johnson (R) 1%

Really?

You mean the Rick Perry the GOP Establishment see as their fall back card?

Bill Kristol to a NY Time Reporter telling him how the GOP Establishment plans to deal with “the Tea party mutiny”

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2792217/posts?page=3

Kristol told me just after Perry entered the race, a development that essentially ended [the more radical Michele] Bachmann’s brief ascent. Establishment Republicans may prefer Romney to Perry, but their assumption is that either man can be counted on to steer the party back toward the broad center next fall, effectively disarming the Tea Party mutiny.

Advisers had assumed that Perry’s record dealing with border issues would satisfy immigration hard-liners. But they underestimated how his support for a Texas law that provides in-state tuition to children of illegal immigrants if they have lived in the state three years and graduated from high school would undermine his conservative bona fides.

“It is at least interesting that a 10-year-old law that passed with little opposition and treats Texas residents equally would be an issue,” said Ray Sullivan, the campaign communications director.

He's still surrounding himself with yes men concerning illegal immigration because he refuses to see how opposed most Republicans are to it. When so much hubris is ingrained in a candidate and his underlings I expect his polls to continue to sink.

I’m sorry, and I know this isn’t very nice...

but when I see Perry on TV, he looks too much like Bush with a very bad Ronald Reagan makeover.

“Perry will rebound, as people will get to know the real Perry.”

TOO LATE!!! People got to know the REAL Perry. He was at the top of the polls BEFORE they got to know him. Now they know him, and they realize they can do better, much better.

Perry is an evangelical Christian. They don’t allow those in the club. His energy speech was awesome.

And sane Republican candidate will do the same.

It took Perry two weeks to apologize (sort of) for the outrageous “don’t have a heart” quip. I had given him a “last chance” after his La Raza-worthy “different last name” comment at the prior debate. I am done with him now.

Perry will be just fine. I know how Perry campaigns...I also know how people prematurely put nails in his coffin.

What are they going to do get 10,000 illegals to sew him a parachute. Then the next phase can be twenty thousand illegals working on a bigger parachute. Open up a road side stand selling “Cat whipped T-shirts” you will be a lot better off.

You keep posting it, when in fact the source of this is a leftist reporter in the NY Times and 1) his statement is not verifiable; 2) who cares what Bill Kristol says.

You want us to believe someone who says things like this:

Does Anyone Have a Grip on the G.O.P.?

by Matt Bai

“It’s worth pointing out that when Republicans express concern about the anti-government militancy in their midst, it has a ring of serious denial. After all, generations of Republican candidates have now echoed the theme of Ronald Reagan in his 1981 inaugural address: “In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem. Government is the problem.”

And a progression of ideological uprisings inside the party — the Reagan revolutionaries, Pat Buchanan’s pitchfork brigades, Newt Gingrich’s band of guerrilla lawmakers and now the Tea Partiers - have only pushed the anti-Washington argument closer to its illogical extreme. “

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/16/magazine/does-anyone-have-a-grip-on-the-gop.html?_r=2&pagewanted=all

What a surprise that far leftists hate Perry and this is what you are bringing here to FR as authoritative source?!

Bush was so horrible and Obama is such a great improvement over Bush that he deserves a second term. (/sarc)

Carter, Reagan, G.W. Bush were as well. So what? Many Evangelicals who back Perry also back amnesty for illegals, like Dr. Richard Land. It isn't enough. And Anita Perry's whining complaints about his "faith" were preposterous.
