I don’t know how I got on your ping list, but this is the first time you pinged me. Years ago we had a neighbor who got pregnant at 42. She had a beautiful daughter at age 43.
I told another friend about it, and she said “If I found out I was pregnant at 42, I’d shoot myself”. My wife thought one was enough, so that is all we had.
I’m 45, and my 10th child is due in January. It’s no big deal.
Good for you! We were blessed with a beautiful daughter in 1985, and my wife decided to spoil her as a single child. OK, not really. My wife wasn’t exactly a helicopter parent, but a stay at home mom and daughter didn’t get away with anything.
Different families work out in different ways. My main point was that unless you’ve got a heart condition, diabetes, or some other major health problem, pregnancy over 40 is like pregnancy at 20: it might be miserable, it might be easy. My first pregnancy was the worst.
Ms. Bruni would have it easy no matter what her age: she’s not changing diapers, cooking, cleaning, shopping, leading Cub Scouts and a choir, teaching Sunday School, and doing six loads of laundry a day.
I hear you. I remember a lot of large families as a kid, but growing up on a farm, there was always work to be done by kids. I used to milk the cows, feed cattle, sheep and hogs before going to school.
It’s God’s way of preparing women. You don’t mind going through labor because you can’t stand being pregnant anymore!!

I’m from a farm, myself. Ours was all crops, though, except for chickens and my grandpop’s dogs, which went after the chickens.
I tried to get my husband to move back there to the 19th century, but he’s an electrical engineer and wasn’t having any of it. However, if we have the massive economic collapse, we could produce a lot of food on our suburban house lot, with the labor force we’ve got.

Really? 10 children in this day and age? GREAT, really. I’m the eldest of 12 and although one has died, I still consider the rest to be the best friends and support anyone could ever want. We took care of Mom too of course. Blessed children, yours.

I think the comments would be standard for any woman in her last tri-mester. It can’t be comfortable at all. You have lost your body in a few short months. Uncomfortable all the time. Unable to do the things that are routine or normal for you.
When the baby comes she will be relieved and I am sure a good mother.

agreed. My wife adores all of our children - but in her last month or two, she was not so happy with the pregnancy itself.
Delighted when she held them, wanted them.
but hey, it is uncomfortable and certainly prohibits normal activity for you right down to how you can sleep!
These people are unfairly reporting on statements like she doesn’t want the baby or something. I think it is out of context. Poor thing is just tired and has raging hormones!
