Ending the Discussion of "Fair Share" (What is the maximum % of income someone should pay in taxes?)
Forbes ^ | 10/15/2011 | Dean Zarras

Posted on 10/15/2011 8:00:54 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Let’s talk about “fair share.” President Obama certainly wants to. He’s “all in” on the notion that “the rich” don’t pay their “fair share” of taxes in this country. Indeed, he’s wagering his re-election on the bet that a majority of voters will agree with him. When the tyranny of the majority succeeds, Obama will win, too.

As parents, one of our most important tasks is to know when to say “no” to our children. We all recognize a “brat” when we see one — a child who’s never been told “no”, and whines and complains until he or she gets his or her way. ”Shame on his parents!”, or perhaps that’s not politically correct to say anymore. But bratty children grow up to be bratty voters, too.

Unfortunately our political system often rewards the political equivalent of the irresponsible parent. Using Other People’s Money, irresponsible politicians promise the world, and the bratty voters like it. Once elected, these politicians do their best to deliver the goods. It’s alright, they say, because of their interpretation of the General Welfare and Commerce clauses of the Constitution. Others beg to differ…

Sadly, under such a system, no amount of revenue to the government is ever enough, because human wants are themselves unlimited. Therefore, those with a lot of assets, with “a lot” being defined by the politics of envy, become natural targets for the boundless benevolence of these irresponsible people – voters and politicians alike.

At least one prominent media figure is finally on to the correct way to put a lid on this ruinous line of “fair share” reasoning. Most recently, it was Stuart Varney.

Because I know a lot of these types of people, I’ll guarantee the persons who sympathize or participate in these stupid demonstrations are dominated by envy. They just can’t stand the idea that someone has more than they do. It doesn’t matter that they themselves might have a lot more than others. Someone else has a dollar more than they do, and it’s just not fair, don’t you know.

Do people on the Left ever get tired of their own idiocy? I guess not. The obsession with “fair share” is a mindless Gestalt based on the nursery rhyme made of “fair” and “share” and beyond that there is nothing coherently argued. The Left simply wants MORE and only when they get ALL of it will they go elsewhere and look for more.

are we just talking about federal income taxes or federal income taxes and sales taxes and property taxes and gas taxes and liquor taxes and cigarette taxes and service taxes, county taxes, local taxes, state taxes, etc. Because when you’re talking about a “percentage of income”, I’m pretty sure I’m paying more than the average millionaire after all taxes are accounted for.

For sure, a 10% cap on income taxes wouldn’t come close to funding the government’s current obligations...

Of course, as he points out later, this assumes you think current spending levels are correct. If you read Beard's An Economic Interpretation of the Constitution, you'll come away with the realization that the gov't should only provide public goods. That is, goods that are deemed necessary, but not normally provided in a free market (e.g., a standing military, a legal system to police property rights, etc.)

What really pi$$#$ me off is that none of the MSM points out that the top 10% pay almost 70% of the tax bill while 51% of the population slides through paying nothing in federal income taxes. To me, if you don't pay any federal income taxes, you have "nothing in the game" and, hence, you don't get to vote in federal elections. Obozo's "leveling the playing field" needs to be exposed for the sham that it is. And what's he bitching about anyway? He and his cronies wrote the friggin' IRS Code in the first place.

This is really what it boils down to, IMHO.

God only asks for 10%.So tomorrow we'll start only collecting 10%.

And then the day after tomorrow we can stop meeting every one of our obligations. We'd barely make enough to pay the interest on the debt we currently owe.

Right now, the U.S. government is borrowing over 2 million more dollars every single minute just to make ends meet.

Look at this chart and tell me where the money has to come from.

http://www.federalbudget.com/

We could cut *everything* except defense, ss and the treasury department and we'd still would be short. Ten percent will not be enough to dig us out of this hole.

I believe everyone in this Country deserves to participate in our Republic and to have ownership in the U.S.

At this point, only 53% of the people have ownership in the Country, only those people pay Federal taxes; the rest are deprived of ownership.

Everyone in the U.S. should pay some amount of tax so that they feel a sense of ownership. Newborn babies should pay a dollar, welfare queens should pay something. Even Democrats should pay something!

The only people who aren’t paying their “fair share” of taxes is the lower 50% of earners who are paying no taxes at all......

Every year the budget gets an automatic 10% raise. So when you hear that the budget has been cut by 5%, that means there is only a 5% increase...With the billions in the budget that this admin. has added, that will automatically be increased 10% in next years budget...If the government took everyone's money they still couldn't pay off their debt. The budget should start out the year with zero automatic increase then a decrease in the budget would actually be a decrease.....base line budget has got to go.

We have no obligation except defense and SS sec. Get rid of all the departments except defense and all the alphabet departments like the EPA BaTF Dept. of Education etc and the outlay needed would be drastically reduced...

We did fine before all that crap was put in. Dept of Education was put in by Carter to pay off the unions. I wonder how many employee's all these departments have nation wide.<>P> Nixon gave use the EPA.

Bush 1 gave us Am. with disabilities act etc. The number of employees in all this crap increases every year.

Johnson gave us the great War on Poverty, that war was lost by the dem's decades ago...It destroyed the black family in a way the KKK never could. The government replaced the black male as daddy and now 70% of black babies are born to single mothers....White babies without fathers has also increased. Stupid young women don't know how to keep their legs together.

We can thank NOW for years of telling young gals its ok to have babies, you can just abort them...

The only moral tax rate is a rate everyone pays equally.

It is a moral hazard to allow people to vote for taxing someone else that they themselves are not obligated to pay.

If people want to raise taxes, taxes need to go up across the board, no loop holes, no deductions, no starting income.

A system that allows one group of people to vote for goodies that another group of people are forced to pay for by force of law is immoral to the core.

I have a very good accountamt, but paid about 1% more income tax rate than Obaba despite earning (not to be confused with given) less than 10% of his income. Yes, that is right, Obama claimed more than 10 times my income and paid a lower tax rate.

The math is pretty simple...as almost half of the people who file income tax pay nothing, the other half has to pay more. True tax fairness should mean that everybody pays something. Our Byzantine tax code exists only for Congress to reward friends and redistribute income. We need simple percentage tax brackets with NO deductions or special deals.

“progressive taxation”..a liberal buzz word for socialism....really is a process by which the very wealthy -who generally buy anything they want-gradually buy a government.

We the People sell it to them...and then complain when Bushes and Clintons run it for 40 years...
