Full Title: Mitt Romney Endorsed By Tea Party Congressman: 'Republicans Need to Understand This Is About Winning'
...what is significant is that Grimm -- who represents Staten Island and part of Brooklyn -- is conservative and a self-identified Tea Party supporter, which is exactly the demographic that Romney has had trouble wooing.
The significance of Grimm's endorsement is the message that came with it: that Republicans should nominate a candidate who can beat President Obama, even if that candidate is not the most conservative of the bunch.

Chris Christie endorses Romney, Ann Coulter endorses Romney, Grimm endorses Romney...
and Romney will NOT beat Obama, the other way around.
In the meantime if conservatives would rally around Perry, who has conservative governing experience and record, he could beat Romney and Obama.
Dude is NOT a true Tea Partier if he endorsed Romney. Hope the Tea Partiers in his District remember this in the next Congressional Election in 2012.
None of those people you listed are conservatives. Christie is in the Romney mold of NE Rockefeller Republican, him endorsing Romney was less surprising than the sun rising in the morning. Coulter has been for Romney for years now. Grimm is a random congressman who carries no weight whatsoever, especially since he’s not from an early primary state. Romney probably said he’d reward him handsomely for the endorsement. Oh, and conservatives ARE beginning to coalesce around a candidate to beat Barry, his name is Herman Cain. :)
The fix is double in.
even if that candidate is not the most conservative of the bunch
Romeny couldn’t be the most conservative person at a Obama Fundraiser! Voters should be carefull of “Self Identified” Tea Partiers. Every Republican and their brother is going to call themselves a Tea Party “Leader”. That should tell you something...The tea party is grass roots and has no real “Leaders”. Be wary of false Tea Partiers...
Doesn’t sound like a tea party conservative to me.
Romney was for TARP, the bailouts and Obama’s nearly trillion dollar stimulus package and is the chief architect of ObamaCare. All of which were the primary reasons the TEA party sprang into action.
Beyond that, Romney is no conservative. His record includes defending abortion/Roe v Wade, promoter of gay rights, global warming advocate, pro-amnesty for illegal aliens, pro-gun-control, appoints liberal judges and officials, ran to the left of Ted Kennedy and tried to distance himself from Reagan/Bush and he absolutely hates (and fears) the TEA party. And for good reason.
Sounds like the good congressman here is a bit confused or is a go along to get along big government RINO.
A rather Grim way to announce you’d like to be primaried...
Speaking of Romney and global warming, did you see this?
Will Romney hire Obama’s climate-change guru Holdren?
“the Romney administration in 2005 essentially did what Barack Obama’s EPA wants to do now. He imposed CO2 emission caps - the “toughest in the nation” - in an effort to curtail traditional energy production. Not only did Romney impose these costly new regulations, he then imposed price caps to keep power companies from passing the cost along to the consumer. As we have seen in RomneyCare, regulation and price controls eventually drive businesses into bankruptcy or relocation.”
It’s looking more and more like Romney and Obama are two sides of the same coin.
Both of these criticisms are, at best, misplaced; at worst, they are just disingenuous.
At any rate, they are easily answerable.
Lets begin with the argument against purism. To this line, two replies are in the coming.
As for the second objection against the Tea Partiers rejection of those Republican candidates who eschew his values and convictions,
it can be dispensed with just as effortlessly as the first.
Every election seasonand at no time more so than this past seasonRepublicans pledge to reform Washington, trim down the federal government, and so forth.
Once, however, they get elected and they conduct themselves with none of the confidence and enthusiasm with which they expressed themselves on the campaign trail,
those who placed them in office are treated to one lecture after the other on the need for compromise and patience.
Well, when the Tea Partiers impatience with establishment Republican candidates intimates a Democratic victory,
he can use this same line of reasoning against his Republican critics.
My dislike for the Democratic Party is second to none, he can insist.
But in order to advance in the long run my conservative or Constitutionalist values, it may be necessary to compromise some in the short term.
You don't 'win' by voting in progressively more liberal Republicans.
If he makes it past the primaries, he will not get my vote.
NY Republicans are solidly behind Romney, but that doesn’t mean Perry is the answer. He’s as much a go-along game player as Romney. (And a little bit dense, too.)
Grimm is more of a rino then teaparty member.
And who cares what a politicians thinks?
We need to remove Obama! Why? Whats the point if another Liberal just take his place. If we must win, we must win on ideology, not simply replace one Liberal with another
If winning is about R0mney, then prepare to lose.
Grimm is a self proclaimed “Tea Party” member. Caving for Romney is proof he is not. No sweat.
Rick is no Romney.
I think we should see if there’s a way to get W elected again. (sarc)
Haven’t you heard, Jim? We MUST vote for anyone who can beat obama! There are those who say you should vote for Barney Frank if he was to win the republican nomination.
The GOP has all but announced that they will back mittens only, and could care less what the TEA party and conservatives think or want. At least that’s the impression I’m getting from them. If that’s what they want, then I’ll pass. If it comes down to obama or romney, you have no choice, they’re two sides of the same coin. The two ruling parties have been playing off one another for the last century and a half, it’s time for a party that adheres to Constitutional principle to rise to the top.
YEah, I’d say he’s about 40 IQ points short of a Romney.
>> Has the whole world gone crazy?
Relax. It’s only an endorsement by a Northeastern Republican.
He MAY have been Tea Party but no longer.
I’m sorry but Mitt is untrustworthy Liberal that will say ANYTHING to get elected.
This is the GOP Establishment trying to say this race is over before people had a chance to vote.
The useless GOP elitist establishment FEARS Herman Cain. This is why they are trying to get endorsements ASAP.
And that is exactly what the RINO establishment is trying to cram down our throats.
All the establishment-supported candidates or near-candidates of the last 2 election cycles have been even further left than George Bush, the compassionate Conservative. (eg. Rudy McRomney, Huckleberry, Christie, Perry, Huntsman). Anyone who is to the right of Bush and begins to get any traction is immediately attacked by the establishment GOP and the RINOs at Fox News.(eg. Thompson, Cain, Palin, Bachmann).
The Tea Party goal of eliminating canddiates that do not support fiscal responsibility is a never-ending work-in-progress.
We know that it will take many election cycles to create meaningful change.
It is inevitable that the Tea Party will support candidates that eventually betray their core values.
It is inevitable that the Tea Party will support candidates who never shared their values, but pretended to support those values.
No movement is perfect. No candidate is perfect.
The key is to stay loyal to our values and to continue our movement.
We are right, we are strong and we have the power to take this country back to Constitutional principles as long as we persevere and remain faithful to each other.
He is rated 46 on heritageaction.com so he is no TP guy.
ANY conservative with an IQ in triple digits and a superior ability with colloquial American English can beat the O.
Let’s NOT pick another RINO, please.
Grimm wants to be Mitt’s Atty General..
Yeah, right. Like endorsing Schwarzenegger was about winning. How well did that one turn out?
Yeah, pretty much.
NO MITTENS, NO WAY!
The communist OWN IT NOW.
We just got a GOP Obama questionaire wanting donations, I filled it out, and for donation amount, checked other and wrote in see attached - Then I typed up and printed out this letter, my wife and I signed, we stamped the no postage needed envelope and sent it off
“We can not monetarily support a party that seems to be moving away from our beliefs and goals for our country. Especially with the vindication Sara Palin has been attacked with from Top Republican officials. Her stated vision is the direction our country needs to go instead of entrenched politicians who cant seem to do what is right for the country and get a handle on the spending, they seem to start running for re-election as soon as they get re-elected by pandering for votes. If the GOP would have turned Sara loose instead of putting the muzzle on her, we would not be in the position we are in right now. The election that put Obama in the Whitehouse was all on the GOP because of that muzzle. It was pretty obvious to anybody paying attention, that McCain really did not want to be President and picking Sara, made it closer than he wanted it to be. What really made it obvious was his campaign to retain his Senate seat
if he would have ran his Presidential campaign with half as much tenacity going after Obama as he did with JD Hayworth, Obama would not have the top seat in the country. We are Registered Republicans, but consider us Independent until the GOP gets back to its REAL CONSERVATIVE roots!
BTW just as a FYI, we are supporting Herman Cain for President”
