Actually, becoming CEO of a corporation does require being elected, by the Board of Directors, and sometimes by a majority of the shareholders, IIRC.

That's not for a lack of trying. He ran in the presidential race in 2000 and a race in Georgia a few years back. So he never held elected office because he failed to win two elections. It's better to get the truth out for all to know now - than later hearing gasps if/when the media calls him on it.
