Congress NEVER gave up control of the postal service. They've continued to exercise all sorts of control over since it's founding back in the early 1970s.

The recent "controls" have included extorting $5.8 billion a year from the agency as a sort of "profit" that subsidizes ordinary federal budget expenses. That violates the original USPS Act, but who cares eh?

The second thing they do occurs mostly when Democrats are in office. They INFILTRATE Democrats into major management positions. The place begins to look awfully similar to the old Patronage Ridden Post Office Department ~ and that's probably going on at the present since Obama's got a Democrat majority on the Board of Governors.

The Union's advisors are going to end up seeing the situation pretty much the way I see it and the Union isn't going to like the deal. In fact, when the Chairman of the House committee with responsibility for USPS matters was a Democrat, whatever the Union told him to do he would do. Currently they have a Republican but he's busy investing "Fast and Furious". Probably means he's delegated the post office problem to a staff aid with NO experience in postal matters beyond buying stamps at the closest Safeway.

I have a plan for what to do ~ it can be reorganized as an employee buyout or ESOP, or as far trimmer USPS type organization which can control its own price structure (without the Postal Rate Commission). It can even be left alone as is but without the $5.8 billion tribute ~ that wasn't in the original plan.

We have three types of trash pick up each week. The trucks are automated with an arm to do the work.

Adding two part bins and a feeder to insert pre bounded mail might work.

Mail drop off and trash pick up! They could add an RF reader and also displace the meter readers.

Eliminate all the lost motion and save the earth!
