Perry's Jobs Plan: Drill, Baby, Drill
IBD Editorials ^ | October 17, 2011 | Editor

Election '12: A governor of an energy-rich state would use the "energy of the past" to create the jobs of the present rather than placing bets on solar panels and tilting at windmills.

During the GOP presidential debates, Gov. Rick Perry was criticized for taking all the credit for Texas' job-creation record since he was not responsible for the oil and gas in the ground that created many of those jobs.

True enough. But like Sarah Palin, the governor of another energy-rich state, he did foster a business-friendly climate as free from NIMBY regulations as possible, making the extraction of that energy a reality. He has fought the good fight against an Environmental Protection Agency that is at war with Texas — an EPA determined to shut down domestic fossil fuel production.

On Friday, Perry stood on a giant dock at a U.S. Steel plant in West Mifflin, Pa., to announce his plan to create an estimated 1.2 million jobs by freeing America's energy producers of burdensome federal regulations and reopening federal land and offshore water to energy exploration and production.

The Obama administration says it's already doing this, even after EPA regulations such as its cross-state pollution rule threatens to eviscerate energy production from coal. And after Obama's de facto moratorium on oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico through a glacial permitting process. Plus, outright bans remain elsewhere, including ANWR.

Texas’ best days are behind it. The state faces a $10 billion shortfall in 2012 with only three states (California, Illinois and New Jersey) face greater shortfalls:

http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2011/01/14/10-states-with-the-largest-budget-shortfalls

Here's a report from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas that describes the problems Texas will face in coming years. In 1980 there were approximately three Anglos for every Hispanic in Texas. By 2020 Hispanics will be the majority. By 2040 70% of children under 5 in Texas will be Hispanic. Texas, like Perry, will be toast:

Thanks. I work in a non-operational role for a E&P company that has offices in Dallas and Houston. And people dont realize that we have accountants, IT personnel, clerks and everything like that on our payroll. And most people probably dont know that most drillers have to hire service companies for equipment and specialized labor, with a good amount being created in Texas.

If you dont mind my asking, are you land based, water based or both? I dont have much experience with land operations.

Moron not reading the article and thus not knowing that Perry did not say that because it would go against his template. Pathetic

I realize Perry people aren’t the smartest people on the planet so I will type this real slowly just for you.

For your edification:

Perry’s campaign is a train wreck. And as such his campaign has to try to win back much of the support he lost by running his mouth and alienating the conservative base. Using Palin’s slogan was a transparent attempt to do just that.

You’re welcome.

Apparently, you have very limited knowledge of how the Oil industry works or functions.

The USA exports close to 40% of it's current production because the oil contains a high Sulfur content that does not meet EPA standards for refining. The same goes for the Canadian oil.

The Alberta Sands crude is very low grade with an extremely high Sulfur ratio. This is the primary reason a pipeline has been proposed to send it to the Gulf of Mexico for year around shipping capability.

And you might also do some research to educate yourself in regards to the North Dakota field. It is not the “Bakken Field” like you stated. It is known as the “Williston Basin” and the target formation that contains the oil being produced there is called the Bakken, which is part of a shale/silt stone conglomerate including the Three Forks/Rierdon factions.

One of the largest new discoveries on the Continent lies in Texas Pan and extends into Mexico. Texas is far from done in regards to Oil production. (Eagle Ford Shale) Since you know so much about this, perhaps you can enlighten me even more about what are facts and what are fantasy. http://www.theinfomine.com/2010/05/27/major-new-us-oil-discovery-sixth-largest-in-history/

” La Raza Rick Perry...”

Maybe you’ll like “ Affirmative Action Tax Plan “ Cain better.

ABC World News Tonight, Monday October 17, 2011,
Jonathan Karl reporting:

” In another unconventional move for a Republican,
Cain’s aides tell me he’s going to make a direct appeal
for African American votes, unveiling a plan later
this week to help inner city poor.
A plan , I am told , that will include tax rates even lower
than 9 9 9. “

Apparently, if you have the right skin color ,
your tax rate under Cain
will be less than 9-9-9.
I don’t think even Jesse Jackson would go this far.

For three years you have been bashing Sarah Palin non-stop. Now, you're backing a clown who makes Palin look like a genius on her worst day ... a man for whom constructing a simple sentence is a major undertaking.

Of course it is Cain. He is a conservative. That is who you should be supporting....a conservative. What a concept there for you to ponder.

” La Raza Rick Perry...”

Yes, La Raza Rick Perry.

How dare Cain say he wants to help American citizens in an attempt to draw the black vote from the Marxist Kenyan! That's down right treasonous!

There's a reason why La Raza Rick Perry's drop in support is similar to that of Howard Dean in 2004.

Fully 69% of Americans in the latest IBD/TIPP poll say they don’t favor states giving in-state college tuition to ILLEGAL aliens while charging higher fees for legal, out-of-state residents. Just 22% support such a policy. 73% of Republicans are opposed vs. 20% in favor.

Independents have even stronger views: 74%-15%. Even Democrats are strongly opposed 58%-32%.

In fact, a majority of every major subgroup opposes giving illegals in-state tuition rates — men and women, rich and poor, urban and rural. Hispanics, who have more conflicted views over ILLEGAL immigration than is commonly known, are opposed, 54%-28%. Blacks, who often see ILLEGAL aliens as rivals for jobs, are the most opposed, 80%-12%.

Enjoy!

Perry is just fine as a conservative. I dont know that someone who runs with a line that is not true should be telling people who to support.

But seriously, aside from what Cain is proposing, how do you know he is a conservative? You are putting a lot of faith in hoping that he will be.

Sir are you from south Texas? The small town of Cotulla, Carrizo Spring, Asherton, Big Wells, and on and on are busting out the seams with new wells coming in each and every day. There is not enough housing for the workers. New RV parks are spring up everywhere. Oil Companies are building new offices and shops, new apartments are going up everywhere. Parts stores, wielding shops, cafes, are all spring up and still can't keep up with demand. The traffic is another problem. Lot's to do down that way if anyone needs a job. If they were to drill on all the land that is leased right now it will take them ten to fifteen years to finish.

This has got to be one of the best threads in a long time. I am witnessing a couple of the loudest most insulting Perry haters on FR get their asses handed to them and watching them be exposed for the jokes they are. This is a beautiful thing.

Well for one thing I guarantee that he would not call use heartless....not that he would ever support welfare for illegal aliens (in state tuition is welfare)....he is for border fence. He would not force young girls to get a sex shot. He would not abuse his responsibility for signing EOs for ridiculous reasons. He would sign E-Verify. So many things that Cain is that actually unfortunately Perry is not. To be honest, it does not matter what I think of Perry as he and he alone has butchered his campaign. He seriously had this whole thing in the bag.....if he would have thought before speaking he could have easily won the whole thing.
