But when asked later in the news conference why he refused to take ownership of the comments, Cain said that he did, and that he was only apologizing if he offended anyone.

But he said he wouldn’t apologize for proposing a combination of tactics to crack down on illegal immigration.

Do you remember the Pope’s non apology? I think this is another non apology. ;) He didn’t apologize for the comment, only that it might have offended some! LOL

Thanks...I was just thinking that after I posted. It was a half-apology, like good politicians do. He NEVER said that he was now against a wired border fence.

Perry did a similar half-apology for Gardacil (the drug that allows teens to have wild and crazy sex without consequences, or with less consequences). Perry said he regretted not going through the state legislature...he never said it was a mistake to mandate the shots.

Sorry, I don’t remember anything about the Pope’s apology. but today too many people are just looking for something to complain about...I have known people like that, not happy unless they are complaining...I just cannot understand that attitude...My mother use to tell me, grow a tougher hide. And I did. Don’t get offended easily, in fact cannot remember being offended...but can remember being pi$$ed off..:O)

True. It's not like Clinton or Reno or Weiner, who actually did something wrong and weaseled their non-apologies. What do you do if you say something true and necessary, and folks pretend to be offended? "Pretend" to apologize, I guess. In the cases of the Pope and Cain, I think that was the appropriate response. In charity, you don't will that anyone be upset, but that may be the effect. You're obligated to stand by the comment. The Pope told the truth about Islam at Regensburg. Cain was telling the truth about what's needed at the border. Those who want to destroy the West, and those who are timorous and influenced by them, can't take it. But that's their problem. For many, your clarity will help them figure out that you're telling the simple and necessary truth.
