" I have a LOT of questions about Perry"

If you had questions about Perry the answers are all here posted by some very good loyal Freepers who have been around awhile. You and your Minn buddies hit every Perry thread with false information. Many people believe a fence won't work. It's an educated opinion. It is also not a Governor place to build it. Texas could save $400,000,000 by just doing what you accuse us of doing,,,,,nothing. Perry is a good man, a good Governor and one of the crappiest debaters on the planet.

If the Media succeeds in destroying Cain you had better pray that Rick is still in the hunt or get ready for President Romney.

If Perry fails I'm just fine with Cain. I wish the Cain people would have the same attitude.

If Mr. Cain falters, I would imagine that Gov. Palin will take a serious second look at running. She’s the only Republican who could raise the money and staff/volunteers to get the job done. Every time I hear the whisperings about Gov. Christie or some other squish I have to laugh!

In my opinion, the difference has to do with how serious someone views the illegals problem.

For people who look at the loss of California and see Texas 10 years from now, it looks like Perry is national suicide.

There is a lot to like about Rick Perry, but if there is one issue on which his position is likely to destroy our long constitutional tradition of limited government and individual freedom and replace it with socialism, then that one issue trumps all the others.

Imagine a sickly patient on the verge of death [Uncle Sam] interviewing prospective doctors.

Into to the room comes Dr. Perry.

Dr. Perry with a big smile says, “I’ve got just the program to get you back to health. I’m going to give you a regimen of antibiotics [cutting government spending and returning powers to the states] and a super-nutritious plan of food and vitamins [opening up domestic energy resources, cutting taxes and government regulation and reforming entitlements].

The patient now sits up and listens hopefully as Dr. Perry continues:

“And then I’m going to cut off your head [legalizing tens of millions of illegals]. Oh wait, I’m not going to call it that [won’t call it amnesty], so let’s just call it separating your head from your body.”

At that point, Uncle Sam is saying to himself in horror, it doesn’t matter that he has this great medicine and nutrition plan, he is going to kill me!

That is why the question of the illegals is not just some minor detail in a big campaign platform.

It has to do with whether limited government and individual freedom will even be viable in the future in America.

But couldn’t the opposite also be said about supporters of Cain? They’re also “very loyal Freepers”. But I don’t believe anyone said he should, as governor, should build a fence. Arizona can’t afford to either but their governor took a very strong stance against illegal immigration. What about sanctuary cities? They’ve been banned in many states, why not TX? He’s been governor for quite some time.

Look, they all have their warts, the thing is each one of us has to conscientiously decide which warts we can live with. I understand he’s a crappy debater. But he’s been in politics for a long time & debating is a skill that can be learned & improved (that’s why high schools have debate clubs). Without a doubt this is the most important election in my lifetime. If Perry believes he’s the best person for the job then he should be doing all he can to improve his chances. He could hire a real debate coach (bet there are some great ones at TX universities).

One of my fears with him (and I have reservations about all of them) is that it will be so easy for the media to paint him as another dumb Texan. As the country will be paying attention at that point they’ll be watching closely and won’t be too hard to convince. Whether that’s fair or not doesn’t matter, it’s a political reality. Can he rise above it? Of course! But he’s a professional politician and has been for a couple of decades now. His political skills should be honed by now. I would certainly support him if he was the nominee.
