He said the students he met just prior to speaking were “so bright...so polite.” When he was in fourth grade, he said he stuttered, but he had teachers who reassured him that he was smart. “These kids are incredible,” he said of the Goode students. But there were 22 kids in the class last year, and this year there are 30, which affects learning, he said. There are no gym teachers, art teachers, music teachers, he said, adding the teachers remaining are stretched too thin.

The “impact is devastating...Early education is the most critical point, the most critical moment” for a child.” It affects all aspects of a child’s later life, he said. We don’t have time to wait 13 months for the results of the next election, he said.
