1) Hows he going to get around the Constitutional issues (the Sixteenth Amendment authorizing Congress to tax income and no amendment authorizing Congress to tax sales)?
2) A sales tax has looked better to many than an income tax because, among other things, supposedly it would be a one-time-only tax for something, less wasteful than having to file income tax every year, and less intrusive than having the IRS policing your income or returns. However, many have said that the 9% sales tax will apply through the entire supply chain, taxing the same thing over and over again as value is added and as it moves from producer through distribution and retail. Whats in here to guarantee only retail sales are taxed?
3) If somehow hes able to get around the Constitutional issues and the value-added issues, the plan has another problem - the "tyranny of the status quo" which takes over about 100 days after the new guy is in office. Why not just get a bill passed immediately after taking office that features time-phased implementation such as: 1) immediately lowering both income and sales taxes to 9% as proposed (NO OTHER TAXES) and 2) mandating BOTH a gradual and complete phase-out of income tax while creating and phasing in a sales tax? Otherwise he risks getting us bogged down midstream with a sales tax without having passed a bill abolishing the income tax - a Socialists dream.
4) He needs spending cut plans to sell a huge and essential tax cut. He might want to take a page out of Reagan's book and hire the best business minds to come to DC and noodle this and then come up with a sound proposal - shouldn't be difficult to see tremendous slashes in pure government waste.
I hope Mr. Cain is listening and can make necessary adjustments to his proposals even if it means adjusting the catchy phrase 999 itself. The point is tax cuts are most essential, followed by huge cut in government spending, and ABOLISHING OBAMACARE.
Mitt will get questions about his comments that the way to fix housing is to let foreclosures proceed. It will be interesting to see if the others agree with his comments..( as they should)
Be interesting to here any discussion about OWS. Newt should tear it up.
Today I may watch it.
Go Bachmann!
Go Cain!
Go Gingrich!
Go Perry!
Go Santorum! ... anyone but Romney! FUMR!!!
Barf alert: the host is Anderson Cooper.
Shall we start a pool on how long it takes Anderson to ask Herman Cain why he and the Tea Party hate latinos and want them to die an agonizing death by electrocution when they are only the purest of souls coming here to do jobs Americans won’t do?
My guess: 8:07 p.m. EST, and I further guess that Cain will answer the question very successfully and Anderson will cry in disappointment on Candy Crowley’s shoulder.
Thank you!
I’m just gonna get this out of the way. The one central point about Herman Cain’s “999” plan is that he came up with “an idea”. Sure it has rough edges, but it could be built on... or scrapped. That is a remarkable achievement when one notes that Obama has yet to come up a single positive/workable idea either as a US senator and now as president. His policies have been that of destruction. Penalties, more federal oversight and regulation, breaking down barriers where barriers should exist (think gays in the military). He’s simply a destroyer.
Are they going to ask Santorum what he thought of SNL skit with him an a gay bar?
Herman Cain is going to be facing some major league pitching tonight. Will he go 4 for 4 with a grand slam or will he strike out 4 times? Or will it be something in between.
As a Cain backer, I will be on the edge of my seat tonight to see how he handles the pressure. In previous debates, the pressure was mostly on Perry and the others. With Perry pretty much down for the count, tonight all guns will be trained on Cain as he seems to be the only person standing between an awful choice of Mitt Romney or Barack Obama next November.
Good luck tonight Herman and don't let the bastards grind you down!
BTW...breaking on FoxNews right now are allegations that Barack Obama's campaign committed fraud in the 2008 Indiana primary, many of the voter signatures (to get Obama on the ballot) were forged and when the forgeries are removed, Obama would not have had enough signatures to get on the ballot. Apparently other states are being investigated as well and ACORN is in it up to their ears.

Pre-debate discussion, one panel guy (I don’t know who he is) says the candidates need to give more than bumper sticker responses.
Blitzer reminds that they usually have 1 minute to answer and 30 seconds to respond.

We do need a format that provides more ‘meat’ from the candidates and less reliance on gotcha’s.
