MILFORD — U.S. Rep. Richard Neal, D-2nd, said yesterday he plans to ask for an investigation into how a witness to the accident that killed Matthew Denice could have disappeared.

"I'm asking for a full review of the incident from the Department of Homeland Security and Janet Napolitano," Neal said at a press conference at the Milford Police Department.

Police have said Luis Acosta, 20, of 10 Cherry St., Apt. 2, Milford, a passenger in the pickup truck that struck Denice in August, cut off a monitoring bracelet Oct. 1 and likely fled the country.

Nicolas D. Guaman, 34, of 10 Cherry St., Apt. 1, Milford, is accused of driving the truck when it hit Denice's motorcycle and dragged his body a quarter-mile. Authorities have determined that Guaman is a native of Ecuador who is in this country illegally.

Police Chief Thomas O'Loughlin said Guaman and Acosta knew each other but did not elaborate on their relationship. It has been determined that Acosta is an illegal immigrant, O'Loughlin said.

Acosta fled after the accident, and police captured him two days later out of state. He gave a voluntary statement about the incident and was arrested on a warrant for driving without a license. After that matter was settled in court, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement held Acosta on a detainer, suspecting that he was in the country illegally.

Their idea of a illegal alien low rate offender...worthy of monitoring bracelet Acosta fled after the accident, and police captured him two days later out of state

Police say Acosta has used several aliases, including Luis Gilberto Piinquin, Luis Gilberto Pinquin, Luis Gilberto Piinquil, Luis Gilberto Suko and Luis Gilberto Acosta Puinquil.

I'm all for bringing Acosta to justice but his value as a witness is dubious at best.

This incident happened a half mile from my home. There were several people of that neighborhood where the 'accident' occured who saw the whole thing. It's a busy area.
They were running along side the truck, pounding on the windows screaming at Guaman to stop his vehicle. It didn't help.
In fact, after Guaman was finally stopped (he hit a tree) he backed up and ran over Matthew Denice again.

This incident has a lot of people here seriously p!$$ed off. Especially in light of Governor Deval Patrick's statement, "Matthew Denice was not killed by an illegal alien....he was killed by a drunk driver."

I applaud Richard Neal's efforts on this. He is usually a useless piece of **** politician.

Reading the story, you cannot help but marvel at the breathtaking naivety of the ICE in thinking that a mere tracking bracelet would prevent this guy from fleeing.

Personally, I don’t buy it. They intentionally allowed him to flee.
