Occupy Wall Street signals end of utopia economics

Commentary: Rich world’s social discontent will result in restored trade barriers

By Amotz Asa-El

JERUSALEM (MarketWatch) -- “The basis of our government is the opinion of the people,” said Thomas Jefferson. A novelty when it was said in 1787, that insight now goes without saying, provided that one knows just what “the opinion of the people” is.

Reuters

An Occupy Wall Street campaign demonstrator holds a placard in Zuccotti Park, near Wall Street in New York on Oct. 17, 2011.

However, as the world followed recent days’ social protest in 70 cities from New York and Frankfurt to Tokyo and Sydney, and as rioters in Rome left a trail of carnage reminiscent of the Barbarian invasion, the mystery grew bigger yet: What do they want?

Expectedly, some now lump together all recent social flashpoints, from Cairo through Tel Aviv to London and Wall Street, as if the so-called Arab Spring’s spirit has gone global. Well that’s unfounded. The Arab upheaval, itself a confusion of civil, tribal, ethnic and religious wars, is about political freedom, while the free world’s upheaval is about social opportunity.

Long term, who is going to worry about what pot smoking hippie protesters want or will do? They are more than likely unemployable anyway.

“The basis of our government is the opinion of the people,” said Thomas Jefferson.

Right, and THAT’S why we have representative government. Gotta beef???? Go vote!!!!!!!!!!

Descending to mob rule is for countries without any form of representation for citizens.

“What do they want? “

I know what I want. I want these worthless parasite protesters to quit stealing money from the rest of us; and contribute something to society.
Those of us contributing and paying taxes should be the ones out protesting against the parasites.

We continue to make the mistake of believing the left didn’t “get” the lessons of the 2010 elections. They get it. They try to make us believe they don’t, but they know where this is headed.

OWS is the very acknowledgement of the left’s recognition of defeat. This is what capitulation looks like in an idealogical war where no one is permanently neutralized.

The “occupation” is merely the left’s attempt to maintain the claim of relevance, and to the extent that relevance is their meager goal, I suppose we could say it’s working.

No, they are there to whine, to wallow in victimhood, and to taunt the victors. It is in these actions that the American left has always received their psychological fulfillment. For them, it’s all a soothingly warm pile of shit. The attention they are getting has them completely anesthetized.

This is why they seem to have no structure, no common demands, and no reasonable end. For them, the acts of complaining, and again, the taunting of the victors, provide all the fulfillment they need.

The violence will come only as the union thugs move into their ranks.

My recommendation:

ignore, ignore, ignore

fumigate as necessary

These folks (and their MSM fellow travelers) are desperate for a “martyr” for the cause.

“ignore, ignore, ignore”

It's hard to do; but the right strategy. We will have police here.
There could very well be some of them arrested literally right outside of my window.

These Flea Baggers don't know what they're doing.

They are useful idiots. The real plans are being written by the AFL-CIO and David Axelrod. These protesters are just too dense to realize it. Part of a long-ordained Obama re-election plan and/or scorched earth policy.

social protest in 70 cities from New York and Frankfurt to Tokyo and Sydney

All of whom have their hands out screaming, "Gimme, gimme, gimme!"

I pee on them all from considerable height.

It isn't the message, it's the protest itself. PYW, what was that quote again?

It’s not the protest, either.

It’s the LAYERS of the protest. They have events lined up for DECEMBER, already. And if it falls off in the cold months, it will get warmer in the spring. This will get rolling back again when it is warmer.

This will be at Zuccotti Park, in cities throughout America, cities around the globe, at universities, marching in the streets, etc. They’re paying people to protest. They have millions of dollars available to them in communications, supplies, food, shelter, etc.

If it grows in the cities and civil disobedience grows, and rioting starts amongst the activists, don’t you think the inner cities will start to erupt, as well?

The idea is for it to churn and churn. If the riots get big enough... they can then cause huge problems for the Mayors and the Governors. That’s what they want. They want to push the Governors, because conflict between the states and the feds could force Obama’s hand...

The people behind the scenes have links that go to our White House. The protest signs should read, “RE-ELECT OBAMA-BIDEN IN 2012! It’s Leninism, Alinsky, Community Organization 101.
