BlackBerry offers angry users $100 in free apps as apology
OCTOBER 19, 2011

Last week, BlackBerry users experienced a service disruption that in some countries lasted three days. Said to have affected their entire customer base of 70 million users, the outage lasted for one day in the U.S., 1.5 days in Latin America and Canada and for about three days in Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa. To compensate users for their inconvenience and frustration, Research in Motion (RIM) is offering users $100 in free premium apps between now and the end of the year.

As a former T-Mobile employee, I’ve used nothing but Androids since the first one came out. I’ve never spent a dime on an app. If it isn’t free, I don’t have it. It’s just not that important.

I think it’s nice that, in honored memory of Steve Jobs’ passing, Blackberry had three days of silence.

Now there’s an idea. A new game called “Angry Users”. Just replace the birds with photos of actual users.

Just got a barely used Optimus V on eBay to replace a busted Curve last month. Saved $10/month on BB server fees bringing monthly to $25. The V will pay for itself in 9 months and RIM won’t be eavesdropping on my e-mail anymore. Mod’d it to Gingerbread and radio station streaming doesn’t crash every 10 minutes like the BB did. Open Source ROMs and all kinds of cool apps—with an unlim data plan, it’s great! To hell with RIM and App World.
