Nearly two dozen Democrats led by U.S. Rep. Gene Green of Houston on Wednesday implored President Barack Obama to approve the controversial Keystone XL pipeline that would carry oil sands crude from Canada to southeast Texas refineries.
The project would boost Americas energy security and the U.S. economy, the lawmakers said in a letter to Obama.
The proposed Keystone XL pipeline represents a true shovel-ready project that would directly create 20,000 high-quality domestic manufacturing and construction jobs for Americans who are desperately seeking employment, the Democrats wrote.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is expected to decide by mid-November whether the 1,700-mile pipeline is in the national interest, paving the way for Obamas final decision on whether to permit the project later this year.
But the question is a major political test for the White House, pitting two of Obamas core constituencies organized labor and environmentalists against each other. Conservationists have cast the choice facing Obama as the biggest environmental dilemma he has faced during three years in the White House and insist his chances of winning another term hang in the balance.
Congressional Republicans have been outspoken in favor of the project, but the Democrats letter today underscores there is bipartisan support on Capitol Hill for Keystone XL.
Some of the 22 Democrats behind todays push are oil-patch lawmakers including six from Texas who signed on to the letter. But others such as New York Democratic Reps. Carolyn McCarthy and Bill Owens dont have big regional ties to oil refining interests.
Environmental activists, native Americans and religious leaders insist that the 36-inch pipeline would jeopardize drinking water supplies in the nations heartland and keep the U.S. dependent on a form of bituminous oil that takes more energy to extract than other fossil fuels.
But some labor unions have argued that approving the pipeline would immediately translate to jobs for the battered construction sector. And oil industry representatives insist that the $7 billion project would bolster Americas energy security, by allowing the U.S. to import more crude from a friendly North American ally instead of the Middle East.

I’ll bet that even the unions want to work on it.
The enviros say this will cause oil spills and such, but, isn’t it a fact that there are already numerous gas and oil pipelines running all over the country? And while there have been spills, there have not been any environmental disasters from these other pipelines?
The Greenpeace crowd will have a meltdown if Obama approves this.
Imagine if Obama vetoes this project? I could see that happen too, since Obama is wedded to the clean green energy idea.
Yes, the Unions want very badly to work this project. I have even seen commercials on TV w/Union folks talking about this pipeline.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a comprehensive energy and climate policy should address our reliance on foreign oil supplies from countries often hostile to U.S. policies by responsibly expanding access to sources of domestic oil production including completion of the Keystone Pipeline which is expected to stimulate $20 billion in new spending for the U.S. economy, spur the creation of 118,000 jobs and generate more than $585 million in state and local taxes for the states along the pipeline route;

America’s Leftist rackateers have to give the global warming cult lip service and a few doggy treats, but in Canada oil sands are the very engine of the Left. I say we arrange a Thunderdome “two leftards enter one leftard leave (then we shoot it)” to solve this intractable problem of the international left.
Yeah, we have a couple of those.
Hey, Obama! Sign this jobs bill now!
Hey, Obama! Sign this jobs bill right away!

So, does Cankles fall on her sword and give Bronco Bomber the cover he needs to keep screwing America .. or does she recommend approval and paint his skinny, coke addled ass into a corner?
Obama's environmental czar................
Keith Stone- head of pipe laying for all the fine ladies.
I’d bet that the main problem to Obama is that it is a private project and not a government project. He just can’t understand how that would create jobs.
I love it. The only short coming of the pipeline, is that while it will make the water filthy, we will have to wait until there is a leak so that we can foul the air.
We need heavy sulfur soft coal that we burn without scrubbers so that we can put acid rain back into the environment and kill fish and forests and wildlife.
As a hunter, if the wilderness is destroyed, it will improve my skills because there won't be so many deer, and I'll have to get better.
Do I need to put it here?

Those are only the Natural Gas pipelines.
