National Public Radio host Lisa Simeone appears to be breaking the taxpayer-subsidized networks ethics rules by acting as a spokeswoman for Occupy D.C. group October 2011, which is currently occupying Freedom Plaza in Washington, D.C.
Simeone hosts NPRs nationally syndicated World of Opera program and SoundPrint, a program that airs on NPRs WAMU affiliate at American University in Washington, D.C.
When Roll Call asked Simeone about the conflict of interest and the apparent ethics violations, she replied, Well, I work in radio still, but this is totally different because she says shes a freelancer. (SEE ALSO: NPR executives caught on tape bashing conservatives and tea party, touting liberals)
NPRs ethics policy for journalists forbids them from engag[ing] in public relations work, paid or unpaid.
The code allows for exceptions in cases such as certain volunteer nonprofit, nonpartisan activities, such as participating in the work of a church, synagogue or other institution of worship, or a charitable organization, so long as this would not conflict with the interests of NPR in reporting on activities related to that institution or organization.
Simeone has appeared in several news stories in recent weeks as a spokeswoman for the left-wing anti-capitalists protests. Our main focus is that we are against corporatism and militarism, the radio host said, adding that the protesters plan to occupy Freedom Plaza for a long time.
I do know whenever it ends, we are not going to stop acts of civil disobedience, and various acts of civil resistance and organization, Simeone said. That will be done in the myriad of ways around the country, and again, this is not the end, but only the beginning.
Its unclear if NPR or WAMU granted Simeone an exception from its ethics policy to participate in, and advocate for, the Occupy protests. If neither entity did grant her an exception, its unclear what, if anything, NPR and WAMU plan to do about her ethics violation.
Neither WAMU news director Jim Asendio nor NPR spokeswoman Anna Christopher returned The Daily Callers requests for comment on the issue.

Paging Juan Williams!
> the taxpayer-subsidized networks ethics rules
LOL!!
The only “ethics” that cabal of marxists and collectivists has is whatever advances the Leftist cause.
STUPID CONSERVATIVE...
Silly things like “Rules” no longer apply to Democrats these days.

The mere existence of a taxpayer fiananced “news” network is grossly unethical, let alone the undeniable evidence that they are openly anti-American Communists.
Lisa Simeone said on a video that the Freedom Square “occupiers” were going to sit on the cold ground until the wars in Afghanistan, etc. are ended. But she has continued to host “World of Opera” since the “occupation” began!
The radio studio and the opera house are where Simeone belongs. But she should not have implied that she would be “sitting on the cold ground” long term!
The good thing about Simeone (besides her pleasant voice) is that she is an activist against the TSA’s assaulting and raping of air passengers. And she says that she finds it easier to work with Republicans on that campaign, since “the Democrats are not always our friends”. And she (and some others in the Freedom Square group) have come to realize that they should in no way support obama, who has even started new wars.
But her occupation group include prominent Sorosites like Medea Benjamin. If “occupiers” begin to see that the “occupation” is actually benefitting the very banksters that they think they are opposing, they should end their “occupations” and go home!
It is time again to defund NPR. The federal government should not be funding partisan organizations, especially those that want to destroy the USA.
“The mere existence of a taxpayer fiananced news network is grossly unethical,”
I would like to see, for one day, ANY “news” network show some ethics.
Grow the movement before the anarchist, Communist, Socalist and NAZI's are shown.
No violence or destruction of public or private property.
