Abingdon resident Michael Solano describes his "spiritual awakening" after suffering a stroke while nearly choking to death at a crab cake eating contest in Timonium.

Abingdon resident Michael Solano says he no longer fears death after a harrowing experience that nearly cost him his life.

“I can tell anybody who's willing to listen what it’s like to die,” he said. “I’m very respectful of death. I’m not trying to want it or have it bestowed upon me, but when it happens, I’m not going to be afraid.”

It always amazes me that when a person has a near death experience, they no longer fear death. Even this guy... who was being grabbed by talons(?!)

Ok, the talon thing is very creepy and would scare me. A friends father died for a minute or two while at his dr’s office recently and is upset he didn’t see anything. He’s a religious man and would have liked to have seen something. I wished he would have seen my Mother who passed 11 months ago as they were friends.

Sounds like he has watched a few Hellraiser films.

if you are talking about the experience you were never dead and near dead makes as much sense as near pregnant, IMO. These stories are usually interesting, I have to admit that.

Are rocks ever near alive?

Exactly. That wasn’t real death.

The four day dead Lazarus never talked about it and the One who raised him said “I go to prepare a place for you.”

That’s all I need to know.

Must have been a lot of bread crumbs in that crab cake to get lodged in his throat. Or, I guess huge amounts. A crab cake done correctly (via the Eastern Shore) is more flaky than tough.

He wasn’t dead. If he had died, he wouldn’t be talking about his experience now.

These people were near dead but were revived. I am not sure what other term one can use for it. The term often used is “near dead”. What is clear is that there is consistency to these people’s stories and there are a large number of documented cases.

The one that I found extremely interesting was the guy who was an agnostic or atheist and during a near-death experience encountered hell (can’t recall his name). He said it got so bad he remembered hearing about Jesus from childhood and in desperation called out to Jesus for help. The pain was brought to an end and then he was revived. That man is now a Christian.

Too bad the esteemed Dr. Evan Harris Walker is no longer with us to answer that question. He was something of a cult hero in the psychic industry with his groundbreaking article “The Nature of Conscientiousness” (Noetic Journal) and later book (http://www.amazon.com/Physics-Consciousness-Quantum-Mind-Meaning/dp/0738204366).

EHW’s delving into the area was a pastime. By day he was an accomplished ballistician, but was extremely well versed in quantum physics and many other arcane areas.

One last bit of trivium: Walker lived about 10 miles from where the person described in this article lived.

We’re all “near” dead.

I remember seeing a similar case on television. If it is the same case, he was a very bad guy before his death experience. Involved in crime etc... He died and found himself in Hell (being torn apart by what he described as demons). He called out for Jesus and was “rescued”. I remember it because after his experience, he became a minister. He was truly changed by it. Sometimes, I like to think that the Lord works in mysterious ways and perhaps... just perhaps, this is one of those times.

Thats similar to other nde stories I read this week, one Lady said the only part of you that burns in hell is the part that longs for the flesh, let go of it and it stops.

That was Howard Storm. He wasn’t very nice but he was not involved in crime, just had a temper and was selfish. He had a wife and kids.

Thank you, HerrBlucher. That is the one that I remember. (I do recall him saying that he wasn’t a nice person at all). Now he is a minister.

Burns the part of me that longs for the flesh??? OUCH!!!! ; )

Seriously, I have no doubts about what will happen when I die, and I am glad my Lord and Savior has a sense of humor. I know He does....after all, He created me!

Storm was an atheist, according to the site. That’s a bit more than just temperamental and selfish.
