Rick Perry gets his swagger back
Sacramento Bee ^ | oct 19, 2011 | Bud Kennedy/Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Gov. Rick Perry is back in the saddle.

Zeroing in on Mitt Romney like a prairie varmint and telling Herman Cain that they'll be "bumpin' tax plans" soon, Perry rode back into the middle of the Republican presidential race Tuesday night with some of his old swagger and his saddlebags still full of cash.

Ten weeks and four more TV debates away from the Iowa caucuses and the launch of election season, Perry remains the Anti-Romney.

If you're a Republican who can't stomach a former Massachusetts governor as the nominee, Perry has $17 million to win your vote between now and spring.

Perry’s creepy behavior at the debate Tuesday night was almost as pathetic as his delusional supporters reaching desperately to knock down Herman Cain. You guys sound like a bunch of stupid liberals. Like your candidate, you need to get some real substance. Wringing your hands like a lib isn’t going to win the nomination.

btw I was a Perry supporter until it became embarrassing.

You know Perry has been nothing but respectful of all the candidates except Romney. This ridicule of Perry by some on our side with no real reason to vote for their candidate makes me think even more that Perry will win the nomination.

Mocking and trying to tear down Perry on a personal level is worthless. I listen for plans and ideas and who seems most likely to implement them.

Cain has nothing but a good personality.

I have no idea what Mitt will do.

i don't know if Newt will succumb to the old Washington ways once he's there.

I know Perry is serious because he's spent the last 12 years dealing with unfunded mandates and Washington sticking their nose in states business. I actually believe Perry will do what he says. He may be rough around the edges, he's not a professional speaker. He may have some cheesiness to him, he's never run for President, he's from outside Washington.

I don’t care about Newt’s wives. He’s already long ago asked forgiveness for these and that is that.

I notice you on Perry and Cain threads doing nothing but trashing Perry AND his supporters.

See you at the finish line and you can vote 3rd party.

The worst thing that Perry has done lately is to make Romney look good to people.

He used bad judgment in his choice of subject matter to attack Romney.

There are tons of legit things to attack Romney with.

He chose the pettiest one.

good grief, who coaches him?

First of all Perry IS a conservative

Perry's version of conservatism:

Supported Al Gore
Pushed TTC land grab and foreign operated TXDOT multi - million dollar taxpayer funded boondoggle
Pushed Gardasil as Big Brother over the objection ofTexas parents
Opposes E-Verify as a method to deter illegal immigrants from stealing jobs from Texans
Supported Guiliani for President in 2007-2008
Has wasted almost 400 million dollars in taxpayer funded pet programs to buy jobs under his ETF/TEF- actively engaging in corporate welfare and cronyism with few jobs to show for the subsidies.
Demonstrates preference to illegals over bonafide U.S. citizens via the Texas DREAM act- another 33 million of taxpayer dollars spent to date coddling illegals with tuition assistance.

If that's REAL conservatism, I want no part of it.

Did you know that the way he turned Godfather’s Pizza around was by closing 20% of the restaurants and laying off some 400 people — some job creator!

That’s exactly what he needs to do to the federal workforce and budget. What planet do you live on?

I think a Perry/Gingrich or a Perry/Cain ticket would be a good one. They would balance each other out on the strength and weakness issues.

"Have you told that to any of the vicious Perry haters who have been showing up on every Perry thread, mercilessly bashing Perry, including lying about him outrageously and continuosly insulting his supporters?"

Leave Rick Perry Alone!

Perry like all other politicians do not create non-govt jobs. They can only create the policies that allow business to flourish. Cain does know how to create jobs and if he did cut back on some jobs to save Godfather Pizza why is that a bad thing? Something that Govt is unable to do. Cain has the intestinal fortitude and indeed leadership skills and can adapt to the presidency. Perry would do fine as president but the process now of getting him there is a little bit steeper.

That was one of my concerns against Newt but read here on FR he apologized for that awhile back - said he was asked for his support by NY politicians for DeeDee.

And Perry deserves a medal for not doing it. Mitt is an agitator - who causes strife to bring down others. He has nothing to offer our country and his past performance shows what he did offer was copied by Barry. Wish Perry could suck punch the no nothing lying agitator - but if nothing else, Perry is the one going after him - no one else really is. MB is Mitt’s Buffer. When focus is on him - her mouth opens and has never said one thing about his healthcare but simply says obamacare will be repealed - so to take the heat off of the subject - as if to drop it. As we know, there is no guarantee it will be repealed - we can only hope. So the topic is very hot as this affects employment - and should be made hot on that stage.

Cain should have said to him, don’t criticize my plan before you present yours - instead of trying to defend the taunts of the agitator. And Perry was right about him hiring illegals - there is info - the illegals from Guatemala were interviewed and it’s not the picture Mitt paints - and no one supporter Perry in that true accusations against Mitt. Too busy covering themselves. Not good.

Well, when trying to present info and Mitt keeps cutting him off with accusations - did you want him not to pause and address the accusations lest the audience believe the known liar Mitt?

Remember - Mitt’s not doing that to any other candidate. How he held his cool when Mitt put his greasy hand on his shoulder I have no idea. I have no dog in this race - Palin raised the bar too high - and I can watch the debate with no desire to cheer any one candidate on - and can see what is happening with open eyes - not wishful eyes.

Cain should have gone after Mitt and asked him for his plan - if he can’t present one - what he says about his plan is null and void so don’t waste my time with your wild accusations - your mittcare already tells us enough about you and any plan you would have. Sorta of ‘either put up or shut up’.
