In February 2009, ABC News was first to report on the 10 letters from constituents that the president is given each day.
Culled from the thousands the White House Correspondence Office receives each day from Americans who have taken the time to sit down and write to their president, the letters help him focus on the real problems people are facing, said then-senior adviser David Axelrod.
Some of these, maybe two or three each day, the President responds to in his own hand.
Then-White House press secretary Robert Gibbs told us that before two different economic speeches, the President pulled letters he has gotten and distributed them to staff, to understand what people were going through.
The White House is now cooperating with a book about those letters, written by the Washington Posts Eli Saslow, who says that sometimes the president has written a check to help his correspondents. A few times during his presidency, Obama admitted, he had written a personal check or made a phone call on the writers behalf, believing that it was his only way to ensure a fast result, Saslow wrote in the Post.

Let me be the first to call BS on this one.
Dear Obama,
The company I work for has just closed due to the area where it is located being declared a wetland by the EPA. They had to declare bankruptcy due legal fees.
Please send help.
Signed,
Joe T Sixpack.
“The White House is now cooperating with a book about those letters, written by the Washington Posts Eli Saslow..”
To be published right before the election next year...(eye roll). How nice that Obama’s lap dancing media is helping him in such a way.
The man is a TOTAL fraud.
Obama wants to be Oprah ?
And let me add the video to your call: Iceman Coughs at Maverick.
bank statements of recipient and canceled check?
This is the action of a patron, a don, a warlord, not that of a president of the world’s greatest democracy. What a fool.
WAIT!!! Personal checks from what account? His personal account, his campaign account, or the taxpayers money he throws around? Inquiring minds want to know.
If he really does this, it would be laudable. Unless his motivation for charity is to promote himself. Which seems to be clear now.
“See how selfless I am!” isn’t going to look very good. Obama really has a tin ear and a transparency that is not the good kind.
I asked Bill Clinton for a Selmer saxophone.
Never heard back from him.
“WAIT!!! Personal checks from what account? His personal account, his campaign account, or the taxpayers money”
Comes from his STASH!!!!!! Mmmmmmmm, Mmmmmmm, Mmmmmmm!
if you have to announce it... fail.
I wonder if the checks are drawn on the account of “Obama’s Stash”?
I’d give him some props for having balls if he’d done that. But of course we know this is all BS.
I second that. Whether he did or did not, the true act of charity would never have been made public.
I’ve heard virtue described as doing the right thing when no one is looking - (or writing a book about it).
What a pile of dung.
His fellow Chicagoan, Capone, was noted for his charity also.
uh-oh, does Mooshelle know about this.
There was a group in the sixties called The Knickerbockers. Obama’s theme song.

If he had writtine personal checks it would have gotten out. First of all the recipients would have said something. Or a clerk who cashed them.
