Yes, decades ago Texas was a Democratic state and most of those Democrats bore no resemblance to today’s party. They were politically and socially conservative. LBJ obviously was not in that group. He and his ilk are one of the reasons so many Texans moved to the GOP and Texas turned red.
That’s not just Texas, that was the whole south. The Bible belt has always spawned more social conservatives than any other area in the nation. Doesn’t excuse Perry’s track record of globalism & big gov’t.
