O’Malley signs congressional redistricting bill for Maryland [trying to redistrict GOP out of seat]

Gov. Martin O’Malley has signed legislation outlining Maryland’s congressional redistricting map

The Democratic governor signed the measure on Thursday, shortly after the state Senate took a final vote to correct about 24 typographical errors in the bill.

The House of Delegates passed the bill on Wednesday.

Maryland has eight seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. The districts were being redrawn for the next 10 years in response to the 2010 census.

Democrats who control the General Assembly say the map reflects population growth in the suburbs of the nation’s capital and along the Interstate corridor northwest of Washington. But Republicans denounced the map as gerrymandering in an effort to move more Democrats into Republican Rep. Roscoe Bartlett’s district in western Maryland.

Reminds me of how rats got Chris Van Hollen into Congress. They redrew the lines so that Connie Morella (RINO-Montgomery County)was redistricted out of the seat she held for years.

I live in MD - Morella used to be my Rep. Always was a good Rep. She was screwed - even after she voted not to approve articles of impeachment against Clinton ...

Now, they are gonna bust up the district from the western most part of the state and merge parts of an existing district in suburban MD [just outside DC] with it.

Win-Win for Dems, GOP loses the western district, but Dems retain the eat from the suburbs.

Trouble is that the exisiting Rep. from the ‘burbs is a Dem liberal black. Her new district has more conservative white folks in it now. She’ll be lucky to get out of the primary [which won’t happen - it’ll be a white Dem]. So, she is getting screwed ...

Just heard tonight on the news that this is going to a legal challenge ...

I should listen to my brother and get the phuck out of Maryland. What they did should be and is criminal in my book. I’m in the Conservative Anne Arundel County which is one of the victims here...now I;m lumped in with the God forsaken obama lovers in Prince Georges County. Martin O’Malley, Michael Busch and Mike Miller are truly evil people that...oh, nevermind...I’ll probably get arrested for thinking about it. They will pay big for this.

I live in MoCo - I get robo-calls from Donna Edwards inviting me to listen in on her “town phone calls”, although I am NOT in her district - I’m in Van Hollen’s ...

I called her office several times to get off the list, EVEN got to speak to her once when she picked up the phone herself. Stupid bit*h said she would get me off - never did ...

The old western district stretched from Deep Creek Lake to Frederick. Now the western district is gonna stretch from Deep Creek Lake and stop in Hagerstown, then pick up again in southern MoCo and go on to PG County - something like a total 150 mile distance ...

It does appear that the Dems have split up minorities so that, aside from one majority-minority district in Baltimore City, they are minorities in white districts. Instead of picking up a third majority-minority district, the state loses one of its two current majority-minority districts.

I understand Maryland is around 40% minority, yet it has mostly white representatives. The GOP should make a point of trying to embarrass the liberals to carve out four minority majority districts. That would help to make leftist live up to their ideals and likely leave the rest of the state competitive.

O'Malley doesn't want to do that - he has higher aspirations, like [after having delivered a new House of Representatives seat to the Dems] running for Mikulski's Senate seat [assuming she retires at the end of her term] ...

No one should be outraged over this; the GOP is doing the exact same thing in many other states with much greater overall success. Elections have consequences, and this is one of them.

This will be thrown out in federal court as it goes against the 1965 Voter’s Right Act. Dems tried this in 1993 and lost and did the same in 2002 and lost before liberal judges each time.

The Dems are doing the same thing in Red state Arizona. There is a districting commission. 2 Dems, 2 Pubbies and an ‘independent’. Turns out the ‘independent’ is more Dem that she is Indy. We gained a seat here and, unless the redistricting is overturned, it is surely going to the Dems. The commission claimed several districts ‘toss-ups’ but 4 out of 5 have a majority of Dem registered voters. Huh?? Sleazy politics. One district is so gerrymandered it contains Flagstaff, Fountain Hills and Yuma. Nowhere close to each other. Why do we EVER trust Dems to do anything with integrity?

” O’Malley doesn’t want to do that - he has higher aspirations” as in running for President of the USA.

omally is such a total FREAK. This idiot spent over $700,000,000 of the highway “trust fund” on “black hole” projects to assuage his supporters and now wants to raise all sorts of taxes because there is a deficit of $700,000,000 in the highway “trust fund”. What a complete putz.
