The logo selected by the Tampa Bay Host Committee caught flack after Republicans freaked out when some suggested — in all seriousness — that the logo's minaret "could be considered as Islamic 'Moorish Revival' architectural style."

Geez, could be an example? The "minaret" is a stylized representation of the distinctive features of one of the buildings of Tampa University, the Henry B. Plant Museum, which is an example of Moorish Revival architectural style in Florida. What rubes. They can't Google "minaret" "Tampa" and "landmarks" and find the same thing? It's a freaking National Historic Landmark!

Here's different view that shows more "Moorish" detail.

Not to belabor a point, but the logo is definitiely an Islamic style top.

Plant Hall’s tower tops do not curve into a point.
