Rick Perry Talks Iraq and His ‘Love Affair’ With Guns
ABC News ^ | 10/22/11 | Arlett Saenz

Posted on 10/22/2011 10:24:01 AM PDT by normy

Texas Gov. Rick Perry said today he would never announce a date for a troop withdrawal from Iraq, the way President Obama did, but one thing he didn’t care to keep secret was what he called his “long love affair” with guns. Perry, speaking before heading off for a pheasant hunt with Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, at Loess Hills Hunting Preserve in Merrill, Iowa, implied that Obama may be putting American troops at risk by announcing that there will be a full U.S. withdrawal from Iraq by the end of the year. “Most importantly you don’t tell the enemy what your timetable is going to be,” Perry said. ” This administration has signaled, telegraphed its intentions all too often, and that’s just unacceptable. “The last thing that you want to do is put those men and women’s lives in peril, and I think that’s what the president’s done by making a political statement to his base that he’s going to be out of Iraq on a date certain,” Perry said. “That’s just bad public policy, but it’s — more importantly, it’s bad tactics from a commander’s standpoint. He needs to be working with the commanders on a timetable to remove those troops but obviously not telling the bad guys when it’s going to happen.” Wearing a khaki and bright orange hunting vest with a half khaki, half camouflage baseball hat, Perry refused to specify how many troops he would keep in Iraq if he was president but said he would consult with the commanders on the ground to develop a plan he would likely not broadcast to the public.

In his rush to get out on the campaign trail, Obama couldn't be bothered to send an envoy to negotiate immunity for American troops, so we really can't leave any troops there, something that Iran and their puppet, "the Mookster" can't wait for. The simple fact is that the US can't leave any troops in Iraq without immunity, otherwise the kangaroo courts set up there would put our troops in jeopardy. This is very unfortunate, because the last thing the world needs is a nuclear Iran and an Iranian controlled Iraq.

No stronger advocate for the 2nd Amendment and has the record to back it up. No apologies from him on this issue.

Quite right. Also, it was Bush who signed the agreement to leave by the end of the year in the first place. It’s not like it was a secret.

I might be special needs with my spelling problem. I blame my keyboard sticking.

At least Perry knows where he stands on important issues like the 2nd Amendment and since he was an Air Force pilot in the Middle East, he has first hand knowledge of the area, for a dumbass that is. His idea of basically copying Israels border fence is pretty good too, for a dumbass.

I was glad to see the graduate of the "black Harvard" has come in line with Perry's border security measures too.

Perry refused to specify how many troops he would keep in Iraq if he was president

Perry taking time from fun and games to comment?

Good God...

We got thousands of dead Americans, tens of thousands wounded, America spent over a trillion dollars of it’s treasure on these lazy bathrobe wearing fanatical religious freaks, a few years later, America is broke, in debt multiple trillions, tens of millions lost their homes, businesses, investments, retirements, careers, our own borders have become a war zone and national security nightmare...

Hell, we didn’t even get cheap gas out of Iraq.

We won nothing but death and debt Mr. Perry...

Gov. Rick Perry participates in ceremonies at Camp Mabry to redesignate the 49th Armored Division as the 36th Infantry Division. The former 49th Armored Division, which consists of approximately 12,000 soldiers, makes up almost two-thirds of the Texas National Guard. The division's redesignation as the 36th Infantry Division is part of the Texas Army National Guard's transition from a heavy armored force to a more versatile infantry force.

So Rick Perry wants to bring democracy to Iraq?

Someone should ask him why he wants to keep troops there. I doubt he knows the answer.

Per usual, wonderful posts, my fellow Perrywinkle.
As more and more Americans come to realize who the real Rick Perry is an acute divide will arise between this great American and the other candidates.
