Madonna's brother living on street

Madonna's older brother is homeless, living under a bridge in remote northern Michigan.

Anthony Ciccone, 55, told the Michigan Messenger newspaper that he lost his job more than a year ago at his father Silvio's winery near Traverse City, a resort community of 14,000 on upper Lake Michigan, about 215 kilometers south of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

Ciccone says he has been living on the street ever since.

"My family turned their back on me, basically, when I was having a hard time," Ciccone told the Messenger. "You think I haven't answered this kind of question a bazillion times — why my sister is a multibazillionaire, and I'm homeless on the street? Never say never. This could happen to anybody."

Ciccone said he eats evening meals at Traverse City churches, and his only source of income is scrounging bottles and cans to return for their deposit value, and odd jobs.

Madonna Ciccone, 53, was born and raised in southern Michigan, the third of six children to an Italian immigrant father and a mother of French-Canadian descent. Madonna left the Detroit area for New York City in 1977, at age 19, to seek fame and fortune. By 1983 she had found it. Forbes magazine this year estimated Madonna's earnings from 2007 to 2010 alone to be $280 million.

It really is a logical and sensible assumption to make. As I said before--Silvio and the rest of the winery staff must have known that eventually this would land in the press. Only an idiot leaves himself open to that kind of criticism capriciously. I've been taken to task a couple of times on this thread for assuming that Tony must have a long standing issue behind his situation, yet I haven't read one single alternate theory about how he's ended up this way.

Mikey's from Torch Lake, but close enough.

I hope to be excused for off topic. Saw the description earlier in the text, of "remote Northern Michigan". Sort of taking the delightful hideaways in the Upper Peninsula as a description. Now that could be "remote," as in the Copper Country. No, Traverse City far from remote. Sincerely hope the gentleman comes out of his hiatus from society.

Checked on Torch Lake via Google. That Mikey knows a paradise when he sees it.(laughs) Know Petoskey, Michigan. Nice Guinness bar there.

To me, remote Northern Michigan means Trout Lake, De Tour Village, Skidway Lake, etc. I lived by Roscommon for awhile, so I have some familiarity with "Up North".

Traverse City, Torch Lake, Petoskey, Walloon Lake, and those areas have more in common with Chicago in culture than the real North Michigan. Torch Lake is Millionaire's row up there. I like to visit out that way once in awhile. It's a great place to take a city girl, but East of US-131 is what I prefer. Less development and more nature.

How did a 55 year old man get fired from dad's business?

Some people suspect McCartysm.

Where in the article does it say that the man is an alcoholic, or drug user, and where does it say that his father fired him?
