Seems to me the one who signed off on the law that is running for president is Rick.... so we’ll stick with vetting him, which seems to be a big problem fro Perry supporters

“But someone backed Perot and Perot was a spoiler”

Perot was definitely a spoiler for Bush 41 in 1992, but I can’t think of any prominent conservatives that backed him. I think there may have been some that were flirting with the idea, till Perot dropped out in July 1992 citing paranoia over his family’s safety, then got back in the race in Sept or October (can’t remember which). By that time, everyone realized the buy was a kook and stayed far away from him. He still ended pulling about 20% of the popular vote in that election.

In 1996 I don’t think anyone of any note backed Perot. By then, his 15 minutes of fame were long past, but he decided to make another run just to be an irritant. I believe he got something like 10% in that race. I don’t think it was enough to make much of a difference in the outcome.

I like the Fair Tax the best. I loke the Flat Tax 2nd best. But I damned sure don’t want the Fair Tax AND the Flat Tax (999 plan)!

Will the seven people who care please stand over there on the pier. No, on second thought, don’t bother. It doesn’t matter. That ship sailed 6 weks ago.

You think in-state tuition pays all the expenses of their college education? Then why do state schools cost less than private ones? Because state schools are subsidized. Also, the out-of-state students, legal American citizens, help pay the way for all those on paying in-state tuition.

Thanks to all who honestly and enthusiastically contribute to the conservative reforms our party is going to make with a conservative candidate that will be Obama in 2012!

Oops, my bad! LOL

We won't have any conservative candidate that will BE Obama in 2012. One of our conservative candidates will BEAT Obama!

Amazing how two letters can make a such a difference!

Yes, I just posted in another thread, Cain used to support the Flat Tax, and Forbes ran on a Flat Tax ticket. When Fair Tax came out, Cain felt it was a better option and became a very outspoken proponent of Fair Tax.

Cain’s plan is a hybrid Flat tax and Fair tax which transitions to the Fair Tax.

Extra bonus question: Which of those men thought liberal Demonrat Al Gore was the best man for the Presidency in 1988? Hint: He’s also the one who thought ultra-RINO Rudy Giuliani was the best in 2008.

We should vet them all, but posting partial quotes out of context to promote a false narrative is irresponsible. We’re Free Republic, we’re supposed to be better than that.

Why have TX public schools had to provide Spanish speaking teachers for illegal aliens for the past 30 years? Yes, we had to! It's not what you know...it's what you know that isn't so that is the problem!

Oh! Perry wasn't guv when it started!

Hahahhaha! Oh I’m sorry, I left out the part where he said he supports the open border policy as long as we can keep the CRIMINALS from crossing the border. LOL

Glad to clear that up. The rest of that comment only makes things worse for Perry, as it highlights his utter ignorance....

Quote it all DrewsMum:

Perry: "President Fox’s vision for an open border is a vision I embrace, as long as we demonstrate the will to address the obstacles to it.

An open border means poverty has given way to opportunity, and Mexico’s citizens do not feel compelled to cross the border to find that opportunity.

It means we have addressed pollution concerns, made substantial progress in stopping the spread of disease, and rid our crossings of illicit drug smuggling activity.

Clearly we have a long way to go in addressing those issues."

Aren’t endorsements fun! What well known former Alaska Governor endorsed the guy who’s the answer to your extra bonus question?

Oh My God, are you really really using the “Bush’s fault” card? LOL.... um, Perry has been governor for almost 12 years.

You are claiming “the Feds made him do it?” I call bull crap. So Texas is FORCED to educate illegals? Then why isn’t Alabama??? They are forced to teach them in Spanish??? Texas has no choice in the matter?? Please give me links to where “10th amendment” Perry fought against this?

Back in kindergarten kids got to draw circles around things that were the “same” and draw Xs through things that were “not same”. You didn't do so well on those, did you?

Reagan Man, Thanks for your input about flat vs. fair tax...

...And you are right about spending reform.

If you were not aware of this, Rick Perry is listed among the five State Governors who signed the “Cut, Cap, and Balance” Pledge including:

Nikki Hayley
Gary Herbert
Sean Parnell
Rick Perry
Rick Scott

To verify this, see other politicians or citizens who have signed the pledge, or to see the pledge itself, check out:

http://www.cutcapandbalanceact.com/

I believe I heard the Perry Plan (tax reform, budget and spending plan, and entitlement reform proposals) will be debuted this coming Tuesday, October 25, 2011.

Should prove to be an interesting day that day!
