Rights group: Bodies of 53 apparent Gadhafi loyalists found in Libyan hotel

The bodies of 53 people, believed to be supporters of ousted Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, has been found in a hotel that was under the control of anti-Gadhafi fighters, Human Rights Watch said Monday.

The rights group said it found the bodies clustered together at Hotel Mahari in Sirte on Sunday. About 20 residents were putting the bodies in body bags to prepare them for burial when Human Rights Watch found them.

"We found 53 decomposing bodies, apparently (Gadhafi) supporters, at an abandoned hotel in Sirte, and some had their hands bound behind their backs when they were shot," said Peter Bouckaert, emergencies director of Human Rights Watch.

"This requires the immediate attention of the Libyan authorities to investigate what happened and hold accountable those responsible."

Officials with the National Transitional Council, Libya's new leadership, were not immediately available for comment.

The residents told Human Rights Watch investigators they found the bodies last week after the fighting in Sirte stopped and they returned home.

I looked at that video, but other than the script saying it was Khaddafy there was no evidence of it.

This is Obama’s mob-ocray at its best... problem for Obama is, here in America, even the crudest OWSers and unionistas have an Americanized sense of morality and cannot stoop to the level of, Libyan mob antics. Otherwise, Obama would be supreme dictator by now.

“These things are the horrors of war. History teaches us that no man was spared and women were raped or taken as sex slaves. Where are these men’s wives and daughters, eh?

We know these people do not adhear to our “Conventions,” and we should not find shocking the mass murder of the loyalists and their families.

For all our declared civilized ways, when CWII breaks-out here...I have pondered what we will do with all the progressive loyalists and their polluted ideaology?”

PLEASE don’t let us take their women as sex slaves. PLEEEEASSSEEE (shudder). :-)

Did they ever find the remains of the woman that was on TV brandishing the pistol and vowing to fight to the death? I remember that the rebels had taken her when they over ran the station.

Do you suppose it bothers Peter Bouckaert, Emergency Director of Human Rights Watch, that he is a self-parodying fool?

"We found 53 decomposing bodies, apparently (Gadhafi) supporters, at an abandoned hotel in Sirte, and some had their hands bound behind their backs when they were shot," said Peter Bouckaert, emergencies director of Human Rights Watch.

"This requires the immediate attention of the Libyan authorities to investigate what happened and hold accountable those responsible."

What Libyan authorities? The Libyan Authority was just shot dead in an ambulance a few days ago. Even if anybody was inclined to do so, there will be no investigation because there are no investigators.

And then comes the cherry on top of the sundae...

Officials with the National Transitional Council, Libya's new leadership, were not immediately available for comment.

No sh!t, Sherlock... I am not defending Kadaffy, but what he has been replaced with is almost certainly much worse.

It was a fight between a deranged evil despot and lunatic muslim fanatics - and we were stupid enough to pick a side and jump in.

You don't understand how brilliant our strategy was!

Since we intervened on the side of the lunatic muslim fanatics, they will love us now and not want to kill us any more! Sure, they wound up with 10,000 surface-to-air missiles... But now they will be friendly to the West!

What could go wrong?

No, it's just war. Happens every time there is a war, where ever people hate each other.

Thank you. I don't understand all the hand-wringing. Murder and murderous vengeance have been a part of warfare since the beginning of time.

So how many countries has the Muslim Brotherhood secured since Obambi took over?

What are they going to do if it looks like he will not be re-elected?

Ummm... yeah. that'll show 'em

I wonder if they actually giggle out loud when they hear us say stuff like this nowadays?

Moammar Kqgadhafphai was an evil madman with blood drenched hands.

Those who overthrew and killed him are well on the way to filling his shoes.

And the circle continues.

This is the result of Soros/UN, Cass Sunsteins wife, Samantha powers — responsibility to protect (R2P) initiative.

absolutely. this blood is on U.S. hands.

how many people were found shot with tied hands,
before NATO went and dropped 2,000 boms on Libya?
(NATO itself, admitted killing many more civilians,
than Gaddafi was “alleged” to have, before it started.)

now, black civilians are being mistreated, and evicted
from their homes, etc.
Libya now, is in the hands of the Islamists.

(Like Egypt. both countries had banned the Muslim Brotherhood. Now, both are under the control of Islamists.
Sure I blame Gaddafi for Lockerbie. but how many planes will go down, from those thousands of groud to air missiles that have gone “missing” ? It was NOT in the best interest of the U.S. to replace him or Mubarak, with religious fanatics. Now even Afghanistan, says it will fight with Pakistan AGAINST the USA, if needed.)

During WWII, if we would have negotiated a peace treaty, with both sides negotiating, we would have WWIII about 10 years later.

Without nuclear weapons we would still have had WWIII 10 or 20 years later, probably 10 or less.

But your point is extremely well taken that modern "peace" efforts whenever war breaks out also prevent the resolution of one side achieving unambiguous victory. While victory by one side is bloody and violent it is at least a resolution, whereas our present methods tend to keep conflicts simmering forever.

The "Mideast conflict" is really the Israel conflict. If Israel had never been established, these guys would be fighting each other over something else, but in the present world the existence of Israel is the root and focus.

I really don't like to say it, but the most likely end to the conflict is the destruction of Israel. It seems unlikely to me that Israel will make it to the end of this century.

Unless you believe they have the really big gun, God, on their side.

and i’m sure that the Muslim Brotherhood being invited to the White House months before Mubarak was overthrown, etc., has nothing to do with our US Sec of State having an assistant with M.B. family ties...

Unexpected? The most unfortunate fact about all of this is that Muslims are loyal only to Islam. In the future, the American people will be blamed for spilling Muslim blood and for murdering leaders of Islamic Countries. Meanwhile, Obama will trot around the globe, Nobel Peace Prize in hand, making speeches and hauling in paychecks.

Yeah, we have super geniuses running the show these days.

When this "revolution" broke out, we should have deployed dozens of drones over Libya, with cameras only, just so we could watch both sides kill each other.

Make popcorn, not bombs.

And it will only take a single one to grind our abysmal economy to a screeching halt.

If you lend your air force and logistics support to war criminals, does that make your country a war criminal as well?
