Occupy Wall Street's Great Unifier: Hating Geraldo Rivera
The Atlantic ^ | 10/24/11 | Adam Martin

The news from Zuccotti Park over the last week and weekend has focused increasingly on the schisms and animosity within the group, but if there's one thing that keeps Occupy Wall Street protesters united better than just about anything else, it's their disdain for Geraldo Rivera. With the impending cold weather, the strain of sleeping rough, and the disagreements over how to manage the group's budget, tensions in Zuccotti Park are running high. There seems to be a rebellion brewing among the drumming group, and a prank on Sunday night where somebody told the Kitchen they'd been given an A grade by the city for sanitation (which they took seriously and cheered at first) did not go down well. "We are upset someone would play a joke with something so important to us," said Megan Hayes, a member of the food committee, via text. Then there was that guy who climbed the red thing, which organizers did not appreciate one bit. All in all, it was a pretty tough weekend at Occupy Wall Street. But then Geraldo Rivera came by, not to cover the protest but to host a segment on Baby Lisa, the infant missing in Missouri. As his appearances always do, that cameo got everybody in the park on the same page, with a crowd shouting him down and swearing at him, just like his last visit. It's a wonder the guy keeps coming back, but you've got to hand it to him for persistance.

Mediaite has the Fox News video, with Rivera and two experts talking about Baby Lisa on Sunday night. Skip to about 3:00 to hear the jeers pick up, and then watch the sea of middle fingers as the camera pans the crowd:

Occupiers chanted their "mic check" relay,

Why, I can hate Geraldo Rivera with one hand tied behind my back, standing on a balance beam, on one leg, while balancing a half-keg of beer on my head and reciting the Gettysburg Address... ...BACKWARDS.

Ok, well I can't do all that but hating Geraldo? That just comes naturally.

One reason I stopped watching FOX was him getting a show.

Geronimo figured the scum in the park would elect him king of the scum because he’s just as commie and just as hypocritical as he is. I’d bet he still can’t believe they booed him.

who possibly loves him besides him?

No one! That answer is so obvious even an OWS slacker can answer it!

ROTFLOL!

Still laughing...

Still laughing...

Thank you! I love to laugh.

I hate Geraldo Rivera and I haven’t had a TV since the Clinton impeachments, so I never even see/hear the dude! And I hate him just knowing he’s out there.

"it's their disdain for Geraldo Rivera."

I didn't know that I had anything in common with those maroons.

RE: Tagline.

For those of us with German ancestry, 9, 9, 9 sort of already means no, no no.

They don’t hate him because he’s a dipstick—they hate him because he works for FOX—they would do the same for Allan Cooms. But, if they want to hate him—they are welcome to the party. They prove they are real Americans on this issue.

Actually, that's my favorite part of the story. It simply didn't register when they booed him the first second or third time. He figures if he keeps giving them another chance, they'll come around in spite of themselves. The man is a fungus. He's right to think he should be treated like the prodigal son by that crowd.

Can't help but wonder if any the MSMs sent an in-house eunuch (the vapid David Gergen, for example) to a Tea Party, and what kind of reception he got.

Geraldo consider himself some kind of rock star who should be admired by crowds wherever he goes. He should have been fragged when he gave away military plans in Iraq. Otherwise he just deserves to be laughed at, but his ego is so huge the laughter never fazes him. That’s the only thing about him that amuses me.
