Pepsi shareholders demand company stop using aborted fetal cell lines in flavor research

LARGO, FL, October 25, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The pro-life organization Children of God for Life announced today the filing of a shareholder resolution with the Securities and Exchange Commission and PepsiCo, protesting the use of aborted a fetal cell line for the research and development of flavor enhancers for their beverages.

In August 2010, PepsiCo entered into a 4-year agreement with Senomyx for the development of artificial high-potency sweeteners for PepsiCo beverages. Under the contract, PepsiCo is paying $30 million to Senomyx for the research and future royalties on PepsiCo products sold using Senomyx technology.

When the pro-life group wrote both companies requesting they use one of several non-objectionable, viable cell lines listed in their patents, Senomyx did not respond. PepsiCo did reply however, saying that this research, using cell lines derived from aborted babies, would produce “great tasting, lower-calorie beverages.”

“Wow. Slippery slope to soylent green.”

You call it a “slippery slope”; the food industry calls it the “development process”.

Rest assured, soylent green will be “scientific” and “government inspected” as all get out!

This has been posted on FR before. No, the cells are not IN the Pepsi. The cell lines are used by Symantec to test & develop artificial sweeteners used in Pepsi. Pepsi is fully aware that this company is using cell lines from aborted babies to test its sweeteners yet, they refuse to severe ties with Symantec & are proud of their product. Read the damn article.

Also, read the articles I linked above. Geez. This isn’t speculation, emotion, or a joke. Do not let the evilness inherent to this let you enter into denial about the truth.

The assertions of the pro-life groups seems to be somewhat misleading, but the situation still is not good. The wikipedia page dealing with the company has a "talk" page where a poster sympathetic to Senomyx states that this company uses aborted human stem cells for testing responses to sweet substances. This makes more sense, but is less sensational than assuming that they are using these cells in the sweeteners. Of course the resulting use of fetal stem cells still is inexcusable to many of us and is clearly unnecessary.

I do not see any place that says they use the cells IN the sweetener. It is pretty clear that they are using the cells to TEST the sweetener.

I do not find the pro-life group misleading.

It is still inappropriate to use aborted cells for ANY purpose. There is not justifyable defense in my mind. Period. People who engage in this sort of “ethic” should be shunned by society.

Please do not forget that the same process Pepsi uses for flavor testing is also used for vaccines! Here is a chart of vaccines that use the process: http://www.cogforlife.org/fetalvaccines.htm

This is interesting in light of the recent HESC patent denial in Europe; the Euroweenie Court of Justice unanimously supported a German court’s verdict that you can’t patent something that was derived by embryo-destructive research. The court ruled that it was immoral to profit financially from killing an embryo.

I wonder if this Senomyx company’s patent for this flavor research method would be valid in Europe?

Yes very true & now there is a group preparing to conduct a study that will examine the link between autism & the use of vaccines derived from aborted fetal cells.

It’s a sick world folks. I’m just surprised that so many don’t believe this.

I find it abhorrent, but just so people know;

“– No, you are not eating aborted fetal tissue in new food products. Stem cells and aborted fetal tissue are, however, used in the process of testing new flavor additives. The rationale for this method is to find additives allowing the reduction of MSG, salt, and sugar in food ingredients.”

Yet many who vow never to touch another Diet Pepsi, Mountain Dew, or Sobe Lifewater will not bat an eyelash at injecting themselves with something created with murdered souls.

I think that people are largely unaware of the depth of the abortion industry. Abortion is encouraged & protected in this country FOR A REASON.

I wish people would wake up & start to see the tremendous evil that has gripped our nation. This isn’t just a surgery between a woman & her doctor. There’s a lot more behind-the-scenes stuff that keeps these people fighting so hard for the “right to choose”

I want to know who Senomyx buys the aborted cells from! When the perform an abortion do the mothers know their fetus’s cells will be used to make a better tasting Pepsi?
This is sick no matter how you look at it!

THe hospital I occasionally work at does not inform women what will happen to their babies after an abortion.

I have a post-abortive friend. She claims PP never told her what they did with the baby after.

I can’t believe this is even real. People are are going to become cannibals simply to enhance the flavor of junk food?

This is beyond sick.
