Actor Orlando Jones defends tweet calling for Sarah Palin's death
Digital Journal ^ | October 26, 2011 | David Silverberg

Orlando Jones, best known for his stint at comedy show MADtv, recently tweeted for liberals to kill Sarah Palin and defended his statement, saying, "My tweet hit a nerve. That's good."

Several days ago, Jones wrote on his Twitter account: "Libyan Rebels kill Gaddafi, if American liberals want respect they better stop listening to Aretha & kill Sarah Palin(:"

He then faced a barrage of criticism on his Twitter feed and via his Facebook account. CNN reports Jones responded to a number of Twitter users, "including one that asked why the actor 'thinks it's funny to call for Sarah Palin to be murdered.' Jones replied to the query, 'I don't. I think it's funny that you are so upset about my inane tweet.'"

Jones, also known for being a 7-Up spokesperson in the late 1990s, defended his tweet, recently writing, "My tweet was farcical not funny or a call to action."

On his Facebook Page, Jones went further to fully explain his motive behind the inflammatory tweet: "Any anger directed at me and my right to free speech is an absolute waste of time. I am not a statesman. My comments reflect no political affiliation. It's just me being me, in a world that will never comfortably mix political correctness with artistic expression. For that, I offer no apologies, excuses or wisdom."

Palin or her representatives haven't responded to the tweet or its fallout yet. This story will be updated as news comes in.

Civility on the march. And to the credit of Keith Olbermann, he strongly condemned Mr. Jones's unacceptable language and mad him his "Worst Person in the World". Hooray for Olbermann!

Made him, not mad him. It's so rare when Olbermann rates praise here that I do not want to distract from his honor with a misspelling.

WOW I am shocked, shocked that Keith Overbite actually did the right thing for once in his pathetic life. Even HE couldn’t defend what that giant turd said. Its disgusting what that moron wrote, Ive never even heard of him, just some washed up sack of garage looking for his 15 min of fame.

Well of course you can’t offer any “wisdom”, Orlando...you’re a moron.

The tweet was a call to action. Isn’t that illegal?

I googled for an image. He is vaguely familiar. Not sure why *actors* believe they should be tweeting or otherwise getting their thoughts on things out there, they seem to be less bright than the average person. I really think most people know this would be a stupid thing to say.

"My tweet hit a nerve. That's good."

And it's good to know that hitting a nerve is good. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.

Well then he won’t mind if I exercise my artist freedom and say I’d have to problem with someone making him disappear.I mean it is inane and all....

Couple comments:

Good for him for not apologizing. I have lost all tolerance for the obviously insincere routine "apologies." Stand behind what you said, even when it's stupid.

He seems to think his stupid tweet is "artistic expression." Isn't this rather stretching the definition?

He is the latter.

If you parse what he wrote, there is some truth to it.

He basically said that for liberals to be able to implement their agenda, they have to kill their opponents. That’s what the Bolsheviks did....they realize that the only way to really transfer wealth from the rich to the poor, was to kill the rich, and eliminate their opposition, then and only then, could their ideas be implemented.

The way I see it Mr. Jones, is that former Gov. Palin could probably take you out from 300 yds.

Reality can be a bite in the ass...

O. Jones must come from the Mike Tyson “rape Sarah Palin” school of thought.

Orlando, you carpally challenged SOB, why don’t you defend your tweet in front of Todd Palin? He might make you his chum. (I ain’t talking friend, either).

Freedom of speech is great. However, there is no freedom of CONSEQUENCES of your speech. Some politician wants to praise Hitler, they have that right. I also have the right to call him out for it. Jones calls for the death/killing of Palin, he’s going to get the blowback he richly deserves. Just on general principles. Does this nincompoop think that these youngsters today even know who Aretha is? Or is he aware that Palin isn’t running for ANYTHING?
