FIFA vice president Prince Ali Al Hussein will propose that soccer's governing body agree on "general principles" for the use of Islamic headscarfs. He'll bring the issue up at the meeting of the Executive Committee in December. FIFA banned the Islamic scarf covering a women's neck in 2007 claiming safety concerns. A statement from the Asian Football Confederation says Tuesday the proposals will ensure "the safe use of hijab in the game..."

Before we condemn the Iranian idea of modesty, we might consider that in early America the standards for female modesty were a lot closer to today's Iran than to today's Western standards. and as far as Christianity is concerned, I suspect the apostle Paul would approve of an Iranian female soccer game much more than he would a Western beach volleyball contest.

Stop the insanity. These scarfs are NOT mandatory. Are these women stupid?? They aren’t even allowed to drive in some places. They are beaten. They can be 1 of 4 wives....at the age of 13....

I’m in favor of modesty, and there’s nothing like a scarf to disguise the fact that you really needed a hair cut three months ago.

However, wearing something on your head is obviously going to influence a game of soccer. If it’s not a safety issue, there’s the question of whether padding on the head is an unfair advantage in a game that involves hitting the ball with the head.

Ringers or ejected star players who change jersey number with a bench player at halftime could be used.

Good point. How are officials to prove that one dark-eyed, olive-skinned player with only her face showing isn’t a very similar one who shouldn’t be playing?

Yep but they didn’t play soccer in those early days. The Mayan ball court game involving human sacrifice was closer by date.

Other the other hand, I can’t wait until Rooney is running around wearing a Hijib for ManU. That would be a sight to see.

Some loopy Hispanic girl here in Indy converted to Muzzie and is all over the local news because her employer said she need to wear her company provided uniform, not some hijab hijinks.

I had a friend from India in high school who said, "Playing football in a sari? Forget it!" There are clothes that are suitable for sports, and clothes that aren't. My grandmother's high school basketball team wore uniforms that looked like Victorian bathing suits!
